How about an applique of the American gothic? Just in case you are not familiar it is the portrait of the farmer and his wife. He is holding a pitchfork and neither is smiling.

How about a Eureka quilt like Sandy just made, she had pictures posted earlier in the week. It was stunning.

pattern ideas?? Any suggestions appreciated!!

I live a similar lifestyle (and have 4 children). I am making an appliqué work of all our animals. I have horse blocks from a Critterworks pattern, a block with geese modified from the horse pattern, a Bernese Mtn. dog block that I bought the pattern from on Ebay, chicken blocks from a Debbie Mumm book (fabric from a member of RCTQ). The challenge is the peacocks (suggestions appreciated). Every block has a representation of the animals we own. Since I have 2 different breeds of black mares, it was interesting to make it look like Cara or Raven, not just a black horse. It is very personal, will never win a ribbon, but brings smiles to the family as they watch me work on the blocks.

The center block will be a large image of the pre 1850 farmhouse we live in. I am looking for some apple tree patterns to fill in between the animals.

Let me know what you decide on! I am sure they will treasure whatever you make for them.

Take care, Paulette in WV

Patti, my first quilt sounds like your throwover! I love it too, but it got terribly worn on our old lounge. Annie

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!! I will put my thinking cap on and see what I come up with, but everyones suggestions helped get the "creative juices" flowing. I'm changing internet providers in the next day or so, so will be off line but will post what I decide to make as soon as I make up my mind, and have internet access!! Again many thanks for the suggestions Karen Queen of the Sky
