Re: Machine help please

Yep, it is "gopher guts" Top tension problem.

sez,"6. There are loops on the underside of the fabric. If there is a tangle onthe bottom side of the fabric, there is not enough upper tension. More thanlikely the thread has not be pulled snugly between the tension disks on theupper tension assembly. Release the tension assembly six turns or so andre-thread the machine. Now increase the tension to its former position.Turning the tension dial up makes it easier to wrap the thread between thedisks. Or double wrap the thread on the upper tension assembly." although I don't know about double wrapping the thread.

Shelly, sounds like the thread isn't in the top tension at all. Be sure when threading the machine that the pressure foot is *up* and the thread is truely in the tension assembly. And that the whole thing is correctly threaded.

When this happens to me, it's usually because the bobbin thread has popped out of the bobbin tension thing....I rethread the bottom and the problem goes awy.

Yes Pati, that is what I was going to suggest. Many times I have also ended up with "bobbin barf" and right away I know that I have to rethread the machine with the pressure foot UP. The odd time it is from not having the bobbin properly inserted in the bobbin case (holding the thread in your right hand and the bobbin on your left, it should be unwinding from the top not the bottom).

Give it a good clean and oil (if it uses oil). Change the needle. Re-thread everything, top and bottom, and use the same thread up and down. Now try it out on 2 layers of scrap cotton, and remember to put the presser foot down ;-) Still getting gopher guts? Roberta in D
