Re: OT Neighbor making me miserable

Ooooh Yes! LOL - the last slice/crumbs were devoured about 1.30am! Mind you I could eat a bowl of that frosting on it's own!!

Fantastic! I had just a bit too much mix for the tin so I used the leftover stuff to make mini-muffins which funnily enough disappeared about 10 minutes after they'd come out the oven!

Hey Julia! This is my old Crazy Cake recipe, except I use butter instead of vegetable oil. It is still the best chocolate cake I've ever had.

OK, where is the banana cake recipe? I must have missed it while I was gone. Also I want that lemon cream cheese icing recipe, Sharon. Pretty please!

Straight from the Commonsense Cookery Book (Book 1) (Apparently a staple in Aussie high schools back in the 60s).

60g softened butter 120g softened cream cheese (NOT the soft runny cream cheese spread that Kraft make) good slurp of Vanilla extract (or imitation) 2 cups icing sugar grated zest of 1 lemon good squeeze of lemon juice (or more depending on how lemony you like it)

whizz the butter and cream cheese together until smooth. Add the vanilla and lemon. Mix in the icing sugar. Refrain from eating it all until you've iced the cake!

I have a copy of 'Approach to Cookery" by the Home Economics Teachers Group Melbourne dated 1964

Different states used different books. In SA in the '70's we used 'Cooking with Confidence'.... wish I had one now for the memories

You must have stayed in fancier hotels than I did. Where I stayed, they had these grooming aids for sale at elevated prices. They were not an item that was reimbursible, so I wanted the cheapest possible.

I used mum's (NSW back in the 60s) and it was falling apart when I left home. So I left it with her and bought the newly published books 1 & 2 for myself. Love em.

I have one called The Modern Woman's Cookbook, circa 1952. It is hilarious! And another called The Can Opener Cookbook, from the late 50s. I've never tried any of the recipes, but I get good laughs from them!

I don't mean to be replying to my own post here but look at the date and see just how long it took to make it's grand début. I wondered if I just missed it but apparently I didn't. Hmm......cyberspace! Now that's a place I definitely want to visit. (But only when I have plenty of time!) Who knows how long it'd take to get there and if I ever really would.! lol Shelly

The cake or the icing (or both)?

Both!

Simple is the only way to go. Why waste quilting time on something fancy if it is only going to disappear in 5 mins

If you like simple, I could email you a couple of simple receipes DSis sent me. Plus I have a Campbells Simply Delicious Receipes book here that an anut (I'll leave it at that spelling, it suits! (aunt)) gave me, that is full of similar receipes. Yes it's cheating to use condensed soup as a sauce, but it saves so much time!
