Re: OT - PDA's

That sounds like a perfect reason to me! :)

I dunno, Kevin. Without glasses or contacts, I *can* see up close -- about an inch from the end of my nose, with about a 3/4" focal plane. I can't even see that there is a big E at the top of the eyechart without glasses or contacts. Don't see anything there at all (sometimes I'll see a very pale gray smudge, like the paper is a little dirty there, but it's not at all letter shaped).

As I'm getting older, the near vision only works closer and closer, and in a smaller range. I remember when I used to be able to read at a normal distance without glasses or contacts. Can't do that anymore.

So you might be able to still "see up close" ... very, very close! Not sure how useful that is. :-)

I "miss" that close-up vision (about 3" from my left eye). I lost it with my cataract surgery. But having overall vision better than it was 40 years ago kind of makes up for the loss. (It took me 5 years to get out of the habit of pulling down my glasses to see very fine print.)

I got mine from Ebay (buyitnow). It was 'refurbished' but I didn't notice that it had ever been touched before. I've had it for over a year without any probs. Cost about 50% less than in the stores.

I do use my backlight, not all the time, but I do use it. I have an old Palm

100 and it has a backlight and sold for $99 last year,so must be very cheap if you can still find it.

I need a PDA cuz my paper calendar never beeped to tell me of an appt and I would always forget to consult it.

I've never used mine for internet stuff. It did come with a mobile internet kit, but you have to hook it up to your cell phone and I didn't want to use my min up for that.

What he means is, he doesn't want to have to return a long distance phone call. He wants them to pay for the call. If they leave a message, he'll feel obligated to do so.

I bring mine everywhere and have it on (unless we are all out as a family), but if I'm in a meeting or movie or someplace else where the ring will be a PITA, I turn the ringer off and use the vibrate function (sometimes I pay people to call me just for giggles). Actually, it isn't a very strong vibrate, so I have to actually hold it to feel it.

Well, Charlotte, I'm sorry you are so lonely, but it appears you are too busy to visit. LOL We did say we were going to get together and haven't done so yet. You'll have to let me know when you have a free moment.

There was a great Dilbert where Wally had a headset on (but no phone) and walked around insulting his pointy-haired boss all day. When the PHB complained, Wally told him he was talking to his mother and to stop eavesdropping. :)

I think you are better off behind her - at least you can keep an eye on what she's up to. Better than a surprise from behind!
