Hi

That would have to be the 'Snakes & Ladders' quilt. Haven't finished it 'cause I have so many other little things to do. I am slowly (once every couple of months or so) quilting the numbers in :-)

The queen-size jewel box from fabric that I bought on a trip to Las Vegas & surrounding areas last year. The top is done; I want to hand-quilt it, but wanted to finish quilting the friendship circle quilt I was working on first. That took longer than I expected because I kept interrupting myself to make baby quilts for nieces & nephews having babies (four of them since my granddaughter was born last fall). I've finished quilting it and just have to bind it. There are pictures of the jewel box top and the friendship circle in progress on my web site.

One of the cats is 'ginger' and another is a tortoiseshell - fabrics very close to those cat colours, So there is some reddish feel in it. It's not so much what colour, as 'whether to put one on at all'. The other two cats are a black and a mottled grey. So, I have used quite a wide range of colours. . In article , Diana Curtis writes

Does the aqua cracked ice (I love that fabric) audition well as the border? If not, what occurred to me was some other variation on the blue theme, perhaps a slate-y blue/teal combo or a grey-ish cracked ice type of fabric. I see this as a "lightning" type of thing next to the cloudy sky. Or a midnight blue, perhaps with muted stars. Ah the possibilities, all without seeing the piece! :-)

I figured someone would ask! I honestly have too many UFO's...really, AFO's...almost finished objects... several just need one more border, or are basted ready for quilting, or ....

I guess my favourite is what I call my San Antonio quilt...based on one I saw in a quilt magazine several years ago..... three different versions of Log Cabins.....several borders between rounds of LC's..and a fair bit of measuring to get the rounds all fitting together.....in wonderful shades of teal, red, yellow and black. It looks hot, and Mexican, and will be gorgeous.

Why isn't it finished? The blocks require so many different widths of strips in so many colours that it creates a huge mess when I am working on it; there are strips hanging on racks, and on hangers all over the studio (dining room). It is about 1/2 to 2/3 done...and I just need to find a period of about three weeks when there are no other urgencies, and get the mess out and live with it till it's done.

Cheers,

Is it possible you can get a picture of it for us to see? Its hard to guess what might look nice without seeing just which yellows there are ..just what shade of greyish blue.. etc... but... my first thought is it needs a color from the orange/red family.. but not a bright.. a more warmish darker sort. My favorite UFO is a variation on Jacob's Ladder that I have cut out for a friend of mine, and it's all in "country colors" of brown, gold, red, blue, green, and off-white. Why it isn't done is because a baby was born which I hadn't really planned on making a quilt for, and I've been working lots of extra hours at work, and so on. But I love this project, because Keith loves everything I make and would never suspect that I would make him a quilt in his favorite colors. He and his wife will really enjoy this when it's done and I think I might just take it to Glasgow with me and piece it by hand. We'll see...

Oh, the baby isn't mine! It's Alan's (from the History department). It was unplanned, and when I heard about it, I made an equally unplanned quilt!
