Read to Quilt - Need Help with How

I taught sewing a long time and in my sewing courses, I don't recommend backstitching seams in any kind of sewing- garment or quilting. You really can't back up straight and it just creates more bulk in the seam line. The best solution to keep seams from coming undone is to turn your stitch length knob down to short stitches (18-20 per inch) at the beginning and the end of each seam for about

1-1/2. Even after you stitch the seam and trim the seam allowance down, you still have small stitches to hold everything in place. It just makes sense! Try it!

You just need to reprogram yourself from hitting the reverse button to backstitch to turning the stitch length knob down and back up again to sew a seam.

Thanks to both Maureen and Marian for helping me to understand how to finish off a seam.

Mariain, I am not sure I have ever noticed your last name but both my great grandmother's last name was Lewis, wonder if there is any relation there.
