Recently overheard

The annual Cherry Festival just finished up here in my small town. As it happened I was waiting in line to buy tickets behind two women who were talking quilting. I couldn't help grinning when I heard one tell the other: " If the fabric still looks ugly you haven't cut it small enough".

I believe there may be some truth in there somewhere as well! Does anyone have any other humorous quilting lore/expressions?

When we first started our Project Linus chapter & didn't have much donated fabric, one of the quilt shops where we held a Blanket Day donated enough fabric for one quilt each time we had a Blanket Day there.

One of our volunteers, a brand new quilter, took her up on the offer for fabric. Not wanting to use fabric off the shelf, I picked two fabrics off the sale shelf for her. The new quilter thought they were both ugly. But, after she got it made, she said in her Texas drawl, "You know, you take two ugly fabrics and put them together in a quilt and it's pretty!" She was amazed & we've teased her about it ever since.

My husband's aunt has told me that her mother (DH's grandmother) used to say it didn't hurt to have lots of fabric; after all you didn't have to feed it!

Mine's not humorous but I have found it to be true. Sue, a friend in the Needlework Group I belong to, is an amazing quilter. She told me to always try to incorporate a little bit of yellow in my quilts because "Every quilt can use a bit of cheese". And ya' know -- she was right! Even since then I have tried to use at least a smidgen of yellow to my quilts and it always enhances the final look of the quilt. CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I was looking for a very particular color to go in a quilt and the back side of a fabric was just perfect. A lady was standing behind me while I was paying for it. "You can't use the back of a fabric!" The lady behind her said, "Well, she paid for it, didn't she?"
