VW Quilt

I mentioned a while back that I had made a VW quilt for my DH. Still don't have a good picture of the full quilt. (Rick is taking his dad out to dinner.) But there are a couple of sideways ones posted. And a fairly decent one of each of the blocks and the label. They are in the VW Quilt album of my web shots.

We have had several VWs in our lives; all of them are not remembered fondly. One was so contrary DH swore that you could pour a glass of water on the driveway behind it and it would not start because of the high humidity. One was so rusty you didn't know what part was about to fall off and one did not have a reverse gear. (Talk about plan ahead, that was always interesting). One VW was my 'work' car when I was at the shipyard in Pascagoula. Nobody ever dared to butt in line ahead of me in traffic; they knew I could hit them and the bashing of a fender wouldn't blemish the VW's appearance one bit. Precious memories. Your quilt is charming, Pati. Thank you for sharing. Does your DH have a very special one or is he a collector? Polly

I understand about VWs. Rick is sort of a "serial collector" in that he only has one at a time. The one he has now is the 3rd (I think) since I have known him. It is a '69 body on a '63(?) chassis. And is "a ratty old Volkswagen". Something about if he is going to be a cliché he might as well drive one too. I will have to get a pic of him up on line too, at some point. I do not drive Rick's VW. It does not like me. And to get it into first gear I have to lean so far forward the steering wheel is in the way and I almost pull my shoulder out. One time when I did have to drive it, something happened and all the oil dumped over the clutch assembly. On the way out to Luke AFB, with virtually nothing but farm land around for 2-3 miles in each direction. Not fun.

But, They do have memories for me too.

What a cute quilt, Pati! I have another friend (in Phoenix, too -- small world) who made a Freddie Moran "house" quilt interspersed with VWs like yours.

Thank you, I think.

Let me know Mz Butterfly. Things in general are on hold here so schedules are very open. Lunch sounds good, but I will have to pass on the cukes (and anything that touches them. sigh. My body does not like them or melons or mangoes- and they all "taste" the same too. ) Carrots are always yummy... haven't found one I didn't like. (Course they used to tell me that was how to keep my hair red and curly-- carrots and bread crusts.)

What happened with the bath? doesn't sound like fun at all.

Pat, my husband points out that charm and strangeness are 2 of the fundamental properties of the universe. Therefore those of use with either/both should have it made.

(I'm not positive how much sense that makes-- someth> Well, Pati, I really didn't mean STRANGE as in peculiar ....... I really

what a fun quilt! I'm glad I looked at this before heading off to work. You took quite an array of fabrics and pulled them all together in a single theme.

Good job! G> I mentioned a while back that I had made a VW quilt for my DH. Still

Thank you Mary. That is sort of what I was trying to accomplish. VWs are such fun cars, they needed to be a "joyride".
