School Daze are finally here.

Here is the long awaited Schoolhouse quilt that I am making for one of my in-laws who is a retired school teacher. The final size came out to

63" x 63". It is one of three copies that are planned. One for another relative who is also a teacher, and one for myself. I am a dropout, but I love this pattern, so I am going to do one for myself as a keeper. I got the pattern from the Quilt-pro software, and modified it a bit to achieve the look you see. That is great software, as it allows you to tweek the designs and then print a template and cutting list. It takes a lot of the drudgery out of figuring out how to make these multi piece quilts, much like EQ does. Hope you like it.

Love it, John. I particularly like the little sky behind each school house. Dancing in the moonlight for ya!

This one took the longest of all that I have done. There were a lot of eentsy teensy pieces on the belfry which were time consuming to say the least. There are 30 pieces in each schoolhouse. It is enough to make a quilter drop out.

John, it's gorgeous. I do love the sky fabric. Just the perfect touch for that "little red schoolhouse."

My goodness, John, at the self-control you have. I don't know how in the world you made so many schoolhouses and didn't put one bat in a belfry or one uppity kitty in a window. I would never, ever have managed. Polly

Hi John, great job. I love the sky. It wouldn't be nearly as good if you had used just a solid sky-blue fabric.

The only variable on the pattern, is the color of the chimneys. The colors vary between light gold bricks to darkest red bricks. Each one is different. That was all I wanted to "add" to the design. I tend to gag at "Cute" but maybe that is a guy thing. When I was choosing the colors at the store, the saleswoman came running up with some fabric that she assured me would be "just right" for the back. It consisted of a bunch of kids displayed in school settings in cartoon form. I politely told her that I already had the backing at home. which was true. It allowed me to exit the store without throwing up, or worse, delivering one of my tasteless diatribes on the oppressive nature of cuteness, that pervades some quilts. Maybe I am just an old grouch, and should try some of that sort of thing. I don't know though, if I could get through the project. If it rings your bells, then good on ya. but not this camper.

So, maybe you are not too fond of whimsy? Don't hold back, John, tell us what you think!

I have eclectic taste. I enjoy simple, whimsy, sophistication, bold, and many other styles of quilts. There are a few types I don't enjoy, so I do not use those patterns or fabrics, but I do appreciate the varied taste of other quilters. I figure that my way is not the only way. To each her own!

ness, John, at the self-control you have. I don't know how in the

I do tend to have firm opinions about what I like and dislike. I am known as "outspoken" among those that know me personally. That is not to say that others must abide by my choices. Of course people should follow their own directions when it comes to creativity. I know I do. I tend to like the straight forward unadorned and non cute in my art. Hence, my preference for non-cute in anything I do. Please don't think I am casting any aspersions on whatever anybody else does. Just stating what I will and will not do.
