Sewing room on Mission: Organization

Only wish I had 'more' Design Wall space' as I can't get 'far enuf back' from this one to get a pix of the entire quilt--have to take it at a side angle-or open the window and go outside-----but then the bottom is cut off. It's the only wall that's tall enuf for the DW so I make do...other walls are at the roof angle. Other than that, I really LIKE it....and I do use it quite a bit. Do have 3 diff projects going on at once in here and I do have room for them to be 'out' at the same time.... I just need to figure out a better set-up for the ironing board--table works great for fabric--but not for the regular board for ironing shirts/slacks when I 'need' to. Have a dedicated line for the iron so it doesn't blow the other fuses.... I truly am glad we did it.......fellas can't complain about pins all over the house :) I LIKE having my own room DS checked with our gal again last night on how the Website is doing.....

Mr Joe had an interview today and it sounds PROMISING.I almost would hold my breath for this one........

Howdy!

It's a really "cool" room, B-fly. I hope you enjoy it for years.

TV "design" shows: the idiots always want to take out the ceiling fan-- good night nurse! We depend on those fans!

Re: sewing room floors-- I have some of each. Sewing in the dining room, carpet; Cutting in the breakfast room, vinyl; Handquilting in the living room, wood; Front porch for good light & photos, brick.

Good luck to Mr.Joe!

Ditto on the cats here....and pins can hide in carpet until you step on them! Ouch.

Wha's a cow magnet?

Cows are not very discriminate grazers. They end up swallowing bits of wire and other stray pieces of metal. Now if you have ever seen a piece of tripe you will understand how easily such things can get stuck in the cows tummy. When a cow picks up a wire it can cause all sorts of trouble, pain, weight loss, lower milk output, infection, death, nothing good. So you push a cow magnet down the cow's throat and it stays in the animal's belly and attracts all the bits of metal that it will eat. Usually it just stays there for the life of the cow and you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Cows chew their cud and once they swallow bits of metal that can come up along with their cud and damage them so the magnet stays put along with the metal pieces they ingest. I was at a rug hooking school one time and the teacher was using cow magnets. When I identified them the whole class had to know exactly the same thing... What is a cow magnet ???....LOL Anyway...they are about 3 inches long and quite powerful ! Mary

Well, after I posted that I read the bit on magnetsource.com and didn't read anything about cuds ! I was told that years ago and always believed it ! Anyway..I'm sure the article /adv there is correct. I've had all 3 magnets pictured and the one with the bands is really strong !

Cow magnets are good, but i like the "Bingo" wand ones. then you dont have to bend over as much!!! and some have a little hole on the end to hang them.

i have berber carpeting in my room. i converted the 3 season back porch into my sewing room. chilly when the back door opens for the muttly dog, but other than that, i keep the door open in summer, i get the best breeze with 7 windows and the door! sometimes i have to close the blinds tho, it's so sunny back there!

i do clean up after i'm done each day. muttly dog picks up stuff in her fur, cuz she sleeps under my SM while i'm there. i try not to drop pins, etc. try to pick them up pronto, little paws dont like them.

Mine is tightly woven and so far I haven't had any pins 'stick' into it--they mainly just lie flat on top when they fall. Course it's quite a busy print so thy are a bit harder to see--but the magnetic wand takes care of that.

That works well for a dropped contact too, even in the daytime. Lay the flashlight on the floor and slowly pivot it to make the beam 'sweep' along the floor. You'll be able to see the glint when the light hits it, even through blurred vision. Always proved successful in house full of contact wearers.

Isn't that true about cats and carpets? Mine seem to go out of their way to do it. I have carpet in my sewing room right now because we are in a rental (Anyone want to buy a nice house in sunny south Florida?) but at least it is a lot pile Berber, so I can usually find the pins. I keep the door shut when I am not sewing to keep cats off the carpet and away from any stray pins.

My sewing machine sits in front of my bay window. I can sit and look out the 2nd story window and watch the river in front of my house. Well, today you can't see anything much of anything but swirling snow. If it was clear today I could see the little village of fish shacks and see who's catching fish. The other side of the river is all my RCTQ American friends. Hii! I'll wave to you when the wind dies down. I used to sit in the kitchen and quilt but since my DD and DGD moved in to live with us I had to keep putting everything away, so I moved it all up to my bedroom. I like it much better up there , I wonder why I didn't do that sooner? Donna inNWONtario
