I'm fixing to (that's Texan for "going to") start cutting 10" squares out of Minky fabric for a baby quilt. Gosh, it really sheds! What do I need to be aware of before cutting and sewing with this fabric? I'll wait for your replies, I don't want to mess this up as it's for my first GGS! Thanks so much, Michelle G.
Minkee doesn't really shed. It is the cut off nap that will fly all over the place; sort of like the hair on the barber shop floor. First, get out the vacuum cleaner. You will need it. Also, wad up a leftover scrap. You can use it to swipe up bits of cut nap that cling to your cutting mat, scissors, ruler and nose. I asked my search engine 'how to sew Minkee' and just right away it gave me

will make you well prepared. I've only made pillowcases and lined receiving blankets with Minkee; never attempted to piece cut squares. It does sound wonderful and we will want pictures. Just one more thought - like velvet or corduroy - Minkee will change colors somewhat depending on which way you place the blocks together. Go for it! Polly

Minkee is a pain to sew to itself. It slips against itself. Use lots of pins, then add a few more. It is wonderful to wear and such, but about drove me crazy the other day making up a sample robe for the shop. But the robe looks good, and my try-on model said it was cozy.
Have fun, and Blessings of the Season, Pati, in Phx
I made a Minkee snuggle quilt and the shifting made me re-think how I did my sewing. I ended up smooshing it flat as possible as I pinned about every inch (or less!) and I stitched with a basting stitch the first time. If it looked good then I stitched again with a normal length stitch over the basting stitches It slips and slides and *stretches*, too! A walking foot is mandatory.
Good luck! Anything Minkee is wonderful- when they are finished.
