Silly question about block names....

Is there a specific block called a scarppy star? Or is a scrappy star any star you like using scrappy fabrics. And what exactly is the definition of scrappy? I have zero talent for picking colors etc so I do not do anything requiring my imagination for color schemes lol I buy what the patter says to buy, exactly... so scarppy is not something I have given much thought too... sounds way too much like "pick out some colors that good together" lol

I suspect that the term "scrappy" has nearly as many definitions as there are quilters! :-) In my mind the term refers to a quilt with lots of different prints, the kind one would make if one had only the scrap basket to work with. As to the term "scrappy star," I haven't a clue. But I bet someone on the group knows just what you mean.

Carissa,

There may be a scrappy star block, but to my way of thinking it's your second definition - basically using scrappy fabrics to create a star block.

I'm not an expert on scrappy, but I think it could be many things to many people. A scrappy quilt could be made of just one color but with a multitude of different fabrics in that color. It also could be a quilt made with a variety of colors.

I think I saw once on Simply Quilts where they put all their cut scrap pieces into a paper bag and pulled them out at random to sew them together, taking away all of the planning that normally goes into our blocks. And while a couple of colors may not look too hot together, once you've put them into the block and assembled the quilt, it doesn't show!

I think I know why you are asking this question. I interpreted it as the quilt will be stars made from several colors/prints so make any star pattern in your colors and send it. :-)
