when it comes to cutting the tape, you only make 1 cut? Is that correct? That you make cut the tape long enough so that it can be used on both sides of the purse....versus cutting two peices, one for each side?

I made mine in 2 pieces. I don't think you will get such a tight closure with one long piece to bend around!
I don't know if this has been mentioned in this thread but if you round off the ends of the tape measure with the scissors and then cover them with some tape such as blue painters tape, the tape measure goes into the opening much nicer and doesn't snag or tear the fabric.
