Star Bright update (photo link)

I just finished this month's block of my LQS BOM, Star Bright. You can see it (and the rest of them) here:

A simple block in eye-bleeding colors. This BOM is SO not me! I love it! The quilt is destined for my godson's 4-yr-old little brother, who loves bright, eye-bleeding objects. I think the backing needs to be some kind of eye-bleeding neon green or orange too (or big squares of both!), but I'll decide that when I get there.

Next up is piecing the top together for last year's Civil War BOM (also an LQS BOM). The mariner's compass top is stalled for a couple days until the black batting I ordered comes in (that quilt *really* needs black batting to make it pop), and then I'll quilt that. And then... and then... hmm. Quilt the Civil War BOM top, then quilt Getting Rid of the Blues I, then re-quilt the old Irish Chain top that I repaired (that DS wanted to keep it if possible, it was the first quilt I ever made for him), then get to work on a bed quilt for my godson. Still looming over me is quilting the Celtic Knotwork top -- but that I won't do until I have more practice with my BSR. A few more tops, maybe after my godson's next quilt is finished. The Celtic Knotwork top is 90" x 108", pretty big to shove through a regular sewing machine.

But my list of UFOs is definitely shrinking. Feels great!

You know what? I kind of love it too! It grows on you. And if you just look at the thumbnail photos, all the blocks really look good together. Well done! And it's great that you're accomplishing so much. (If you run out, come on over :-) Roberta in D

If some kind soul had given all that beauty to me when I was four, I would have been in heaven. (and I'd probably still be carrying it around with me as an emotional 'blankie'..;) Maybe I'd even be a better person...NAH! Really pretty blocks! Your color and design choices are delightful. chipper :)

You know, I probably will be in Germany again at some point in the next few years. DH's brother is still there and they like to keep in touch. Maybe I'll get to meet you!

Oh, they're not my color or design choices, that's the whole point. Each month I go to my LQS and pick up a little bag with the fabric and block directions (except that in this BOM, it's the same block every month with the same background but different colors for the star). At the end of the year they'll have the yardages for the sashing and borders to buy and then I can put the top together.

I *love* doing BOMs like this because I can just follow the directions and not have to think. It's a nice break from agonizing over the color and fabric choices on my own projects. I spent literally hours at the LQS trying to choose the fabric for the blue-on-black mariner's compass. Exhausting! But the Star Bright BOM is a ton of fun. And I never know what color the star will be next. Just have to stay tuned and find out!

Cool! That is a good idea to stretch the imagination risk free. There is a feeling of playfulness to them that is probably something we could all benefit from now and then. I know what you mean about agonizing over color. For awhile it's fun, but sometimes I give up and do something else instead- yet for all that I love the look of a scrappy quilt that didn't require any fuss at all! Just goes to show you... chipper :)
