Star for a flag

Apr 23, 2007 6 Replies

I need a pattern for a 5 pointed star like is on the American flag. Anyone know where I can get a pattern? I have looked in the Quilter's Cache and the stars I saw were 6 pointed or fractured! Thanks

If you don't get any pattern replies, 'Jan', let me know and I'll talk you through how to make one - it's pretty straightforward. . In message , Boca Jan writes

are you looking for a pieced one or a pattern to applique?

if applique -- just use Microsoft Word's Drawing toolbar -- if you're not sure how - -post back and I'll give you step-by-step directions.

if you are looking for a pieced block -- I did find one in Quilter's Cache... a foundation pieced 8" block

and there is always this ....

do you have a protracter? I think this is something that even if I did have a pattern (and just right now, I do have one in a borrowed book), I'd rather make my own templates, not trace or photocopy, even if my own weren't perfect, though I don't see why they wouldn't be, by drawing out the whole thing, the block will lie flat as long as it's stitched accurately, if you trace or copy templates, a slight distortion could mean you end up with a non flat block.
