To those with inherited stashes

Try the Heartstings Quilt Project as a way to use up ugly fabrics. They can be stripped and also used as foundations. Here's more info:

I'd love just to have a good stash good or ugly. Fixed incomes are no fun and when great sales come by it's usually at the end of the month and even when they are more timely you have to be very picky to be sure it is something you will use. One time only I bought fabric that looked gorgeous on the net. Needless to say when it came in it was not what I had invisioned so it sat for 8 years. I'm in a swap and it will be my focus fabric because I have no clue how or where to use it or with what other fabrics. I will be taking a stack and wack class sometime in the next quarter and maybe I can learn something great at it.

I am so glad to hear that many of you have stashes and get inspired by pieces you "inherit" or purchase as a package deal whatever. It gives us with limited stashes a different perspective as to how we look at fabrics. Thanks for all the helpful hints.

Dorothy, I collect fabric from lots of sources. I visit a local thrift store and find some neat stuff. I have bought Hoffman, Kaufman, Quilters only and many other nice pieces of cottons that I can use. Sometimes it is yards and yards and sometimes it is bags of smaller pieces. I like scrappy so that is ok. My guild also does some fun things that adds to my stash. We do a fat quarter swap, there is a bargain table of fabrics and such that folks donate. I got a piece of plaid that will make a great backing yesterday for $2.00. I don't tear apart clothes but there often is usable fabric that way. On a fixed income you have to be more creative but don't let that hold you back. I have been working a bit on old jeans quilts. Those old jeans will multiply when folks find out you are using them. There have been times in my life when money was in short supply and it is more fun when it isn't but you gotta work with where you are.

That's OK, Dorothy. I've already got a block picked out for it. Gen
