todays work

4 hours at a HUGE book fair after putting primer on some of the hallway walls...4 hoursa with both children adn MOther ...LOTS of money spent, but less than DH expected.

Have been sewing since around 930pm on Katrina Quilts.....MOther is running on the Eruo-Pro (without foot pedal because she is still recovering from bunion surgery) and I was using the Kenmore 12-stitch, sitting on the floor, using my knee to operate the foot pedal.....she's getting ready to start #16 of the night....2 more smallish quilts to go and 5 twin-size waiting to be sewn......guess I passed the goal of 10, huh?

And please remember, those of you that are also doing this....I'm simply taking large pieces of fabric and matching it with other large pieces of fabric...no intricate piecing or anything going on here. In fact, I might only have 1 pieced top....it was supposed to be part of a quilt for my DD, but since she never knew about it, no harm done.

Mother said i had WAY too much quilting fabric if I had enough to make all of these for Katrina and still have bits left over. I had to remind her that the flannel and fleece that we have been using had been destined to be clothing for various family members, not part of quilts....oh well, either we forgo the annual flannel pj bottoms, or I can always get more.

Larisa, going to bed and finishing something sometime tomorrow...probably finish painting the hallway before getting back to sewing....MOther broke the needle on the Euro-Pro, and after removing it, I noticed the bobbin case was off kilter...replaced it after cleaning all around it, and now the machine is a bit louder than it was....oh well, it will get taken care of.

I worked until 2, then started sewing after downtime. DIL was ironing and cutting 12 inch blocks. We have 3 toddler size tops assembled and matched with backing. DIL has 4 more top blocks ready and working on another with 9 inch blocks. And we haven't retrieved the corduroy from storage. As a family we had downtime and went out for pizza. After work tomorrow we may hit Joann's before we start sewing or we may wait on Joann's until Monday when I'm off work. So much I want to do and so little time. :::::::sigh::::::::

You are amazingly productive!

My husband calls this "programming music". I can always tell when he is fixing bugs or somesuch rather than surfing the net by the music being played.

I think to sew fast like you've been doing you need some good music to work to.

Larisa, you exhaust ME girlfriend!

I didn't get any sewing done today - only cutting. Spent the afternoon (with my daughter and her best friend) at the volunteer training session to work at the George R. Brown Convention Center feeding evacuees. It was awe inspiring. 12,000+ people showed up for this training session! We had to crawl in traffic for 45 minutes to even get near the training center and even then ended up parking in a nearby neighborhood and just walking the rest of the way. BUT, we are officially trained to be volunteers now and will be contacted for the days we are to work.

So tomorrow, I finish taping out DS's new bedroom so DH can start painting while I get back to sewing! He is being so terrific and so helpful. He's doing the HE-man labor and being very supportive of me sewing and running back and forth between neighbors helping evacuees and school, instead of working on the house.

The situation changed with the initial family we were going to put up in our house, they found family they are going to stay with long term, but of course there were other families desperately in need of housing so we still have another family we are going to put up in the rent house. It's been a very busy, emotionally stressful day - but a good day, a productive day and a helpful day.

Like you Larisa, I am just cutting large pieces of fabric I have on hand, matching them to large flannel pieces I have (and some that were even donated to me by my EX-MIL!) nothing pieced or fancy - but the colors are going together nicely and I think they will be enjoyed!

When we are finished with emergency quilts Larisa - I think I should come there, help you with your house, take a few days to relax together and then you fly back with me and help me with mine! Sound like a deal? I think we deserve to hug each other and share a lot, LOT of chocolate together!

DH asked me today, "Is it my imagination, or is DS even MORE ADHD than normal?" Had to explain again (he IS Step-dad and still learning) that ADHD is directly affected by external activity and stress level. There is a LOT going on in his life right now too - new kids at school (over-crowding), work/painting/activity on the house, mom helping other people, sewing, working on the house, etc. etc. etc. Hell yeah, he is overwhelmed too at the moment. Everyone just has to remember to take a deep breath, be patient with ourselves and others and be compassionate.

At training today - we were told those were the FIRST three most important things for us to learn before we go to the GRB to volunteer with the evacuees....

  1. BE PATIENT
  2. BE FLEXIBLE
  3. BE COMPASSIONATE
  4. Wash Your Hands

I think those are pretty important rules for us all at the moment.

Hugs and peace to you all, Tina
