I have ordered from them before, and my friend Beatrice in Berlin says they are her favourite online shop! (Prices in Germany are outrageous for fabric - it make the UK look cheap).

Word of warning on ordering from outside the EU (although I'm sure you know this already) - anything worth more than about £15 will be subject to duty and you'll have to pay the customs charges. Ask them to mark it as a "gift" and with a value of not more than £37 to get round this. Morag

Anything that fits into a Global Priority Package without producing a bulge gets through in Austria. I've ordered many things and try to get the shops to send not more than 5 or 5,5 yds in one envelope. That much usually slips through. More than that and I have to pay. Though I have not yet managed to work out how they determine how much I have to pay. Today it only was Euro 13,41 for 8 yds. of fabric. 6.50 is for the post office to deliver and collect customes dues (!!) and the rest is custome dues and taxes. Usually I pay between Euro 20,-- and 22,--. The Cotton club sends the bill extra and gives a value (did not check, so I do not know if it is the real value) on the envelope. The others usually give a low value on the envelope - if they add a bill i can not say, as usually there is not one included - propably the customs authorities keep it.

Uschi the above is the situation in Austria, I can not say anything about other contries. Anyway, the original question was about the reliability of The Cotton Club? I am a satisfied customer. Only be carefull - if you order the first time they add swatches of their sample packages.......... OK, so I ordered 2 more fabrics, but they sliped by customs :-)

Everything I ship to Aussy customers is marked "commercial sample" with $0 value and that way they don't have to pay duty. I don't put a bill in or that would defeat the purpose. I try to ship the cheapest way possible and so far seems to be doing fine. I do the same with Canada and UK customers.

In about 90% of cases, online shops will not mark my stuff as a "gift". I don't even ask... I mean I am buying it.... I just try to keep the order small, or be prepared to fork out for customs. For anything on a personal basis (squishies, HUG blocks, etc) I mark the customs label as "fabric samples". I doubt "quilt blocks" or "fabric" would go walkabout in the UK, but I have heard tales of fabric and quilt theft in the US postal system.... guess they value the stuff more?!
