TSWLTH latest

Today I went to our closest Joanne's to buy some vinyl chalkboard cloth for a craft project. Several weeks ago, I called them to ask about it, and was told they had it in stock. Of course, when I got there, they couldn't find it. I wasn't too optomistic today either even though they had assured me that they normally had it in stock. I couldn't find it today either, but I did locate a manager. He couldn't find it, so I asked if hecould special order some for me. Sure, he said! But then, he couldn't even find the sku # in any of his books. Finally, he went into the back and called their main Service Department to get the ordering information while I waited and waited. He wrote up the order, I gathered up all the other stuff I'd found, and headed for the checkout. The total bill seemed a little high, so I checked and found out that they charged me $7.00 to have it delivered to the store in "about two weeks". I sure wasn't happy, but I needed it for a craft group that I help with at our church. The item was $4.99 a yard. That delivery charge brings it up to over $7.30 a yard!! It'd be different if they were shipping it to my house! Now I'll have to make another trip there, and it had better not be wrinkled or creased! OK, I've vented now, so I'm off to bed.

If anyone knows of a good source for this stuff, please let me know. Thanks,

Don't you think if this is a "regularly stocked item" & when you called, they told you they had it in stock, they should waive the shipping charges? You probably could have used a coupon from the mailer on it as well. I'd call and take it up with the manager.

My closest TSWLTH is closing in a week or so. (They are opening a new Super store a little less than 10 miles away from me.) I stopped in a week ago to see if there was anything I needed/wanted at bargain prices. I found some stuff I had never seen there before (paper fabric you see store recycle bags made of in cute prints) and some home dec fabric (for tote bags). When the girl rang me up it was almost $100 - a bunch of the stuff I bought was 75% off. I told her I thought that was high, but she said everything rang up at the sale price. I checked my receipt when I got home (I never do that), and I was overcharged over $40! So I called, I had to drive back & the "manager" checked my receipt and agreed with me. He told me the girl wouldn't have known the prices were wrong until she rang me up. I told him that's when I questioned her! Oh well - at least he made the correction & they are only 5 minutes away from my house.

Did you all know Joann's was sold at the end of last year? Did this already get discussed? I haven't had time to keep up for the past couple of months, so I'm sure I've missed lots of stuff!

Alice - I hope you challenge them on the shipping charges. It means more in your pocket, than it does in theirs!

Yes I had heard they had been sold, but business and teacher me did some researching and from what I can tell the company that bought them basically wanted to diversify and have a cash cow in their portfolio. Industry experts mostly agreed that we won't see much in the way of changes since to do so could jeopardize the solidity of the business and earnings. They have their own little niche and the buyer wants to keep that. We shall see.

I wouldn't pay that $7. As a regularly stocked item there should be no charge to bring it in to the store. Complain to the manager, or go higher.

The one TSWLTH closed that was less that a mile from me, last year, when they wouldn't cave to the increased rent costs of their building. This Sat I am making my quarterly run to WallyWorld, and will time it all to go to the TSWLTH that is located nearby. I have no had good experiences there [dirty and disorganized store] and hope to see they have changed for the better.

I just sent the home office an email. They've already responded that they'll get back to me within 48 hours to "address my concerns". We'll see.
