Using up the leftovers

I was rummaging through some of the stash drawers and decided to use up some of the leftover blocks and pieces, that went into blocks that I used to make some quilts over the last couple of years. I started sewing up these things in random order and the whole thing is turning out to be rather fun. You know me. I love organized and rather formalized quilts. This is definitely not formalized or ordered. There are fans, 9 patches of various colors and so forth. All of the colors are ones that I bought and used so the color spectrum is one that I like, but not in any great amount of any one color. I don't even know what I am going to do with this darn thing, but it is kind of fun to try it out. I guess you might call it scrappy. Just make sure to pronounce the "S" at the front of that. I will post a picture, of course, when it gets further along to be representative. Or, baring total disgust, when it is completed. who knows, I might even like it.

Ahhhhhh yes! Hot dog. We have hope. Finally John ventured into florals, hexagons and now scrappy. Yipee-yuuuuu. Does a 'wild and crazy guy' lurk beneath that organized and formal ho-hummidy? Can we persuade him to try FM? Yes we can. Polly

Good for you for moving outside your comfort zone. I really admire when someone is able to do that. So far, I haven't managed it. I'm really partial to certain colors and a certain amount of scrappiness in a quilt.

Can't wait to see the picture!

If you don't like the quilt, I'm sure some charity would be delighted to have it. Or you could just send it to me. ;-)

did the same thing with a pile of my leftover and sample blocks. For some reason, I bet John's are a little tamer.

I had an epiphany last night, as I lay in bed thinking about what to do with the leftovers. I often get inspirations for projects late at night while laying in bed awake and trying to get back to sleep. I won't say, at this point, just what I came up with, but if I pull it off, you will be amazed. How's that for a teaser?

John,

My bet is that you will LOVE it when it is finished. I once made a quilt top from a pattern that was essentially a "grab a bunch of FQs, slash them up, mix them up, and sew them together" thing. While I was doing that, I decided that the name of the quilt would be "Massacre in a Quilt Shop". It wasn't looking good to me at all. It is now my very favorite of those quilts that I have kept for myself.

Have fun!

Massacre in a Quilt Shop is a wonderful quilt name, Rita. Delightful! We saw one in Pensacola named "What Was I Thinking?". We wondered too. Polly

Is it finished yet? It never seems to take more than a few hours for you to finish your projects? :-)

At least it used up all the orphan blocks I had shoved in a drawer. It's quite a challenge to get everything to fit together and be square when it's finished.

This one is a bit more complex than just power sewing. I would say it is over 3/4 done. But now there is a lot of hand sewing work to do and that takes time. Well it is sure to please, at least me.
