You might find a quilt shop in Flag, but you're not going to find one in Williams! Used to live there - just visited in late February this year. You would think that with the railroad there (they didn't have the passenger train when I lived there) and all the motels and fast food restaurants along the interstate and downtown, they would do more with downtown. Quite a few empty buildings and some of the buildings in use aren't kept up too well.

Don't know whether there is a quilt shop in Kingman - that's the only town you'll go through between Vegas and Williams.

Be prepared for cold weather the first part of November, it can be pretty cold and snowy. The altitude is approx 6800 downtown. We lived up on the hill south of downtown - our house was at 7000 feet. Don't think my kids ever trick or treated without either ice, snow or cold cold rain. However, it is absolutely beautiful in that area after a snowfall. We were enough higher that it would be snowing at our house when it was raining downtown. Hope they do get snow this winter - they basically didn't get any snow until March this past winter. One winter when we lived there we got 200 inches of snow. Our two dogs loved it! They looked like porpoises surfing the snow instead of the ocean.

I wanted to go to the quilt shop in Sedona when we were there last February. Couldn't find a place to park within 5 miles of downtown! I could not believe (even though I had heard) how much that town has grown. Last time we were there, until this year, was in 1979.

Holy crap. Snow? In Arizona? Oy. Do they know how to get it off the roads, or is it a cluster you-know-what like it is here in North Carolina? If they even THINK the word snow here, the schools close and all the bread sells out...

The snow in Arizona is all in the high country. Not many people realize that the mountains in the Northern and Eastern part of the state are pretty good sized. IIRC, Flagstaff is at 7700 feet elevation and my cabin on the Mogollon Rim in the White MOuntains (NoEastern part of the state) is at 6600 feet. I've seen it snow in Kingman too but not a lot. Phoenix and Tucson don't get snow -- elevation in Phoenix is about

1100 feet. I *have* seen a few spurts of flakes in the outer reaches of the Phoenix suburbs if there is a VERY strong cold front coming down from the North. Of course, I'm talking something like being able to count the flakes as they fall to the ground to immediately melt -- LOL! CiaoMeow >^;;^<

I lived in Flagstaff from 1964 until 1988- and lived at the Grand Canyon from 1960 until 1964 having moved there from from southeast Michigan on Lake Michigan. YES... there is a good chance of snow in Nov. and a very good chance it will be cold. Flagstaff and the Canyon have very similar temperatures, but I'm thinking the Canyon is a bit higher in altitude. (If you have asthma or any breathing issues the altitude and thinner air can cause breathing problems- "normals" will feel more tired at that altitude, so take it easy if you plan any hiking, etc.) Their snow removal is excellent and the snow that is left after plowing will usually melt off the roads by the next day while remaining on the ground in other areas. It's something about the sun being so intense at that altitude??? It's beautiful country, but you will miss the fall colors by about 2 months. You should have lovely warm weather in LV at that time of year. How I envy you- I'd love to make that trip myself. I haven't been back there since 1989. :-(((

Oo oo, me too! Lived a ways out Lake Mary Road (rte 437?) around 1970/71 or so. Something like a million feet of snow that winter. The ski area was verrrry happy :-)

ha ha I got news for you. We live in North Scottsdale, actually we are 50 miles north of Scottsdale town, but we are at the 3000 ft level. We had snow for 2 days. Flakes the size of a silver dollar and got up to 8 inches of the stuff. We could use a little of it now ha ha. Going to be 104 today but the humidity is down to about 17%. That is good. Jeanbaby

Yup, that would have been me! Only that little kid with the "socks" is now

27 years old! We only had to go our Pinnacle Peak road a little ways to make snowballs. KJ

Flagstaff is about 6900 feet. Snow removal, when I lived there, was very good. Oftentimes we would go to bed with no snow and be awakened by the snow plows in the very early morning because it had started snowing during the night. At that time, they didn't let it get ahead of them.

Well, I'm in the LV area! Unfortunately, I'll be heading to Houston right around the time you're here. :( But I can highly recommend the shops here in town; the closest one to me is called Quiltique, and it's right off the freeway -- very convenient.

Actually, I just heard last month that a brand-new LQS had opened in Williams! I haven't been there yet, but it's supposed to be pretty nice. I wish I could remember its name.... :S

LOL! Yup -- Arizona has a marvelously varied topography and climate. The northern part of the state gets cold and snowy. But since it's an annual thing, they *do* know how to get the snow off the roads. It's a different story in the rest of the state. ;)
