Ahhhhhh!

A couple of years ago I took a sort of art quilt class. We used seminole piecing to make rows. The rows had to go together to tell a story. It was quite the stretch for me.

I finally dug out my mostly completed rows to finish them up. I sewed, and cut and pressed and worked. Finally I got all the rows together.

Yuck.

Yep, a big fat yuck. While in the class I liked some of the individual rows but not all of them and not together. The teacher kept telling me it was wonderful. I figured she was just saying that to be polite.

She _was_ just saying that to be polite! Had to be because it's an ugly top.

I pulled it off the design wall and folded it neatly and put it into the trash. Then I pulled out some flannel and sewed on something I really wanted to do.

Ahhhhh......it's a wonderful thing!

I'm so happy that darn thing it in the trash. I NEVER, EVER have to finish it. I learned all I needed to from that project!

feels good! marcella

Good for you for having the courage to do that, Marcella! It's a shame it didn't work out, but there's no "rule" that says you have to finish something you hate. I'm thinking of a project I started at camp last summer and which is still in the box.... ;)

There is something very satisfying about coldly putting something in the trash and celebrating its extinction. There just is. Even better than throwing it on the floor and stomping on it, or taking it outside and setting in on fire. Yes. A very good feeling. Good for you Marcella. Polly

Send it to Jill. The critters would be happy to have it. Gen

And it is what?.....

You do have to make room for this years camp projects after all. Do you know what classes you are taking this summer yet?

Oh, fire! I hadn't thought of that. It's been raining an awful lot here lately...a fire could be good. Hmmm. Wonder if the trash has been emptied yet?

It's a Cynthia England paper-piecing project. Her technique is really nice, but it's not for me. I've done a portion of it and simply have no interest in finishing it. :S

Yup! I've registered for three classes from Sharon Schamber (two piecing, one machine appliqué) and one from Joan Shay. Sharon Schamber won Best of Show in Houston last fall, and I'm very interested in her curved piecing technique, especially. Her quilts are gorgeous. The Joan Shay class should be fun, but I don't think it involves much sewing.

I'm looking forward to it -- but what else is new?

The Joan Shay class I just took didn't involve any sewing during the class. A picture of my class project was just in her latest email newsletter.

the woven basket was kinda fussy. We didn't really get to making the flowers during class time. But she is a very informative teacher. I think you'll enjoy her. Tell her Kathyl the class whiner said hi! :-)KJ

Thank you for this. I'll bet, if I cleaned up a bit, I'd find a thing or two around that are in this same category. Courage to toss is a good thing.

WOW! It sounds like you had a lot of courage to do that. Unfortunately, I am such a recycler I would have to find someone who wanted to use the material. Hence, I have a bunch of UPs laying around my sewing room. Someday I will have another give away.

NO NO NO -- don't burn OR throw away that ugly quilt top!!!! PLEASE -- send the ugly top to Jill Pochick for the animal quilts she makes for the Babies who are awaiting adoption!!! I'm absolutely POSITIVE that Jill would love to have it and the puppies, kitties and other critters who get the quilts don't give a rats "you know what" if their quilt is ugly by *our* standards :-)! Marcella, one quilter's trash IS another quilter's treasure. Send it to someone!

I'm with Polly. Throwing it away or burning it is cathartic. It no longer exists. Giving it away means you have to think about what happens to it next!

Need matches? We could toast marshmallow peeps.

Kathyl, that's lovely! The one we'll be working on in the class I'm taking is . The background does need to be sewn, but I'm not sure we'll be doing that during class. I guess I'll find out when the supply lists are posted. And I'll be sure to pass along your message. ;)

Oh, I've seen that hummingbird quilt in person. It's wonderful. I wonder if you'll just be working on the bird and flowers/leaves. It appears they are in a center square of fabric. Uliess this is a two day class, you'll be plenty busy with the 3-D applique stuff. Joan doesn't let any grass grow under her feet while teaching a class. She's a hoot. KJ

Sandy, It seems that every time I watch CSI, somebody mentions Henderson and I think of you. Isn't it nice to know that I have you inextricably connected to murder in my mind? What is your town like? Glitzy like Las Vegas? or like a normal small town?

It's nice to know that Detroit, my home town, is no longer the Murder Capital of the US. The area where I live isn't even like a huge metropolis. It's just a nice neighborhood with a diverse assortment of people.

Anyway, just a note to let you know--I think of you often, : )

LOL! Thanks for thinking of me, Morag. ;) Henderson and LV are located so close to each other that it's impossible to tell where one stops and the other starts. However, the glitzy stuff is mostly confined to the Strip and to the various casinos scattered around the valley. The rest of the town is pretty much like any other city -- we shop, we quilt, we fight traffic, we live our lives. As for having me inextricably connected to murder in your mind, there have been times when I'd have cheerfully considered it.... ;)
