What I have (or haven't) been up to

Well, I haven't been quilting - I've done a few blocks for Teri's You Pick It swap, but other than that, I've been at a standstill. I *thought* about quilting, and I've been reading the newsgroup, but just had no enthusiasm for working on anything.

Thankfully, that's all changing! Wish I could identify what triggered the change, but I'm just glad it's happening. A couple of weeks ago I ventured to a new-to-me LQS in the Iowa City area (Kathyl, I thought about calling, but it was the day of the Ball State game, so I knew where you'd be!) and picked up some fabric for my You Pick It quilt. Then, DH had a conference in Des Moines this past week, and I decided to take along a table runner I had started to quilt. I now have it about one-third done and might actually get it ready to give to my mom in time for her to use it this Christmas. On Thursday, I went to two quilt shops in the area - picked up some Patrick Lose fabric and some Aurifil thread (after hearing all the recommendations for it here). On Friday, we drove to Winterset (home of the covered bridges of Madison County). DH wanted to get a life-size cardboard cutout of John Wayne (don't ask why - I really don't have a clue!), so we went to his birthplace and then I had the opportunity to go to Fons & Porter's LQS. Picked up some more fabric, and now it's all waiting to be washed.

Today a friend and I went to the local quilt show held every two years. I didn't win the raffle quilt, but really enjoyed the show anyway. I took pics and have them posted on Webshots if anyone wants to take a look.

Time to get back to the table runner - Christmas is coming! Thanks to everyone for keeping me company via the newsgroup over the past couple of months. I've enjoyed reading about what ya'll have been doing even though I couldn't seem to accomplish anything myself!

I'm glad you are getting excited about quilting again. I know that it has a very old and rich history. I also know that there is a National Quilting Day and a National Quilting Association.

Someone did a search looking for grants associated with quilting which led them to my page. There are still a lot of quilting bees around - and even men do quilting.

I'm glad you're getting excited about it again. I'm sure it won't be long until an idea or inspiration comes to you. I'm sure that there are some quilting blogs and other related things that can give you some inspiration.

Hi, Louise! I'm glad you getting back into the swing of quilting again! Sounds like you had some fun shopping and getting inspired. As for your DH's purchase, well... who *wouldn't* like a life-size cutout of the Duke?

Thanks for posting the photos, Louise! There were some beautiful quilts there! I'm so glad you're back in the "swing" of things, and I hope you like the Aurifil thread as much as I do! :)
