What is ColorCatcher?

I kept seeing references to this product on this group. I really had never heard of it, but I saw it at the supermarket the other day. How is it used in quilting? Like, if you have colors that might bleed onto each other, does it prevent that? Or does it just pick up all the fabric lint and keep the colors looking bright? Thanks!

It picks up extra dye from fabrics. It's great to use with anything that might bleed like deep colors and batiks. You can reuse them until they are almost black- they are not a one time use sort of thing. I have used them with new clothing, too- just in case. You can also use several at a time if you do hand-dying and expect a lot of dye to wash out of the fabric. They really are useful and worth the price!

Not anything you'd use for lint or a brightener, tho.

I use the Shout brand; it's in the supermarket near the fabric softeners and spot removers. I think Woolite makes something called a Dye Magnet.

Thanks for that info, Leslie. I didn't know you could use them more than once!

I throw one in the washing machine especially if I need to wash anything red, or another bright color that might bleed. It goes right into the dryer, too. Barbara in FL

I don't put mine in the dryer- I wondered if the fabric softener sheet in the dryer might leave a 'coating' on it and keep it from absorbing as much dye? Any thoughts on that, anybody?

I do put mine in the dryer, but I don't use any fabric softener -- sheets or liquid. You're right, the fabric softener might affect its ability to absorb more dye.
