What's the UK Quilt Buzz?

I have been back in the UK for a year now, having lived in the US for about 6 years, and I am really getting back into my quilting. Have a lot of projects on the go at the moment - which is exactly how I like it.

Just wondering what is going on in the UK Quilt world right now, especially in Scotland.

Anyone got anything interesting happening?

Perhaps Elly and Jo with read this and reply? as far as Scotland is concerned. I did notice that, at Malvern this year, there did seem to be some quite innovative quilts that were based on traditional techniques - if you see what I mean. They weren't way-out art quilts. I think I have noticed more raw-edge appliqué - I can't say for sure, because I dislike it and always walk straight by! But, I think I walk by more than I used to. This might be because Dilys Fronks has developed a new technique with it? I didn't notice as much painting as a few times before. I didn't go to Festival of Quilts, so I don't know what was uppermost there, this year.

Have a look in one of the magazines to see if that gives you any clues? I think they tend to be staying with appealing projects, so they might not be at the cutting edge?

There will be some Quilt Festivals in Scotland sometime soonish. Have a look on the Grosvenor Exhibitions website to see if you can find out any dates, for this autumn or next spring.

Well, the best place to start would be with the Scottish National Quilt Championships which are at Ingliston by Edinburgh airport last weekend in September. As well as the show there are loads of traders and little sampler classes on different techniques. If you google "grosvenor exhibitions" then click on the quilt tab it will take you to the page with all the details. Lots of the colleges are offering patchwork and quilting classes, either City & Guilds or leisure depending on where you live. If you look in the adult learning section of your local council's website you should be able to find out what's close to you. There are several quitling groups around the country but I have been unable to find a website which lists them all, it's usually word of mouth. Where in Scotland are you?
