I once saw a gorgeous LC done in whites and creams. Do 4 smaller blocks and put them together any way you like, makes the conrast sharper. You could also throw in some thai silk, works well with cotton. Roberta in D

If you did just have joined squares, you could go overboard with quilting! If you have a machine that does various stitches, you could so combinations of those in each square. Or, if you were thinking of doing that, you could offset the quilting/stitch patterns - say half way down the fabric squares - and you would have a patchwork of stitches. If you used some variegated threads - pale - this could look amazingly beautiful.

Or: you could do 3-D patterns, like Jennie Rayment's books show. She has a website, and there are probably bits you could glean from those? Sorry I don't really know - I just bought all her books as I love the technique! Or there is another book called something like Fabric Origami.
