Black & white quilts

I was looking at my latest Hancock's catalog and found a book all about black and white quilts. Here's what it says-

Black & White Quilts By Design by Kay Capps Cross In this book Kay illustrates 12 contemporary and traditional quilt designs for use with black and white fabrics AQS6902

You're welcome!

I have that book (big surprise). I don't think there is much new in it that is innovative or remarkable. JMHO

Then you just saved me a few $$ thanks I'll keep looking and will probably do a bit from this quilt pattern and a bit from that and maybe even had a bit of my own. just don't ask which bits are from where when all is said and done. I won't remember

I've been looking at this book, and of course would never order/buy from Han-of-Pad online. Altho' I don't care anything about the paper piecing part of it, there's plenty of inspiration there (wouldn't be the first time I adapted a paper/foundation piecing pattern to a traditional one).

Looking at the book at amazon.com gives a little idea of what's inside, but not enough. ;-)

Ms B, you can use EQ to design in black and white fabrics. you can change the colours within the fabrics on the program. iirc, right click on the drop down colour palette, there is something there about changing colours or adding new colours.

using a fabric with a design similar to yours, change the colours of the various components of the design, the full colour palette is there from black to white and all colours inbetween, just click all the way to right or left of each bit on the design til it looks like your fabrics, then save it back to the palette. do this will all the different fabrics. i hope that makes some sense.

once you get the fabs all in black/white variations, you can use those to design from blocks there or design your own blocks with them. easy peasy really. hard for me to be more specific, as i've not opened EQ in yonks. have a play round and see what you can figure out. fwiw, jeanne

NOW you tell me! NOW! Why on earth didn't *I* think of that? I did have another reminder of it earlier today.....great minds and all that :) Ne'er mind that *I* had forgotten I had that program and that its suppose to be able to let you scan in your own fabrics..hmmmm I'll have to see if they have it in their fabric selections that I can download.

What would I do without you two?

Whaddaya think of a New York Beauty which I can NOT remember ever ever ever doing before. Saw one that I could 'shadow' the points with light and dark on each bigger point? Think that would be neat for the directional fabrics out thon teh outer points? Saw it in the 8" blocks but I think 12" would show more pattern off and it wouldn't take soooooooooo many PIECES : 8"

13X13 squares = 4056 pieces. Mamma MIA! I do like working with curves so that won't be a snafu--just the sheer number seems a bit overwhelming at first. Now to figure on the 12"squares 9x9=81x24pieces per block=1944. That seems much more manageable. Will do as per instructed and make ONE block first. I can always put a bit of sashing to make it pillow size if needed.

Still cogitating but getting closer........
