Tacking/tying quilts

I think it would be shame to tack with interesting stitches on top of intersections of different fabric - the stitches might not show up so well?

I'd be inclined to hit the middles, but maybe the middle of a space, rather than necessarily the middle of each block, if you see what I mean.

And even with W&W/N and all the prewashing in the world, I _way_ prefer the look of something done a little closer that 12". In fact, I like no more than 4" myself, but you're on the clock, and are using 6" blocks so at least once in each block should work :-)

I've made a full bed size quilt of 6" blocks and tied/tacked them in the corners. I was pleased with the results. Barbara in FL

Leslie, I think your tacks would be better if you keep off any seams. It's a challenge to get an SM set up to do fancy and change from thin to thick at the same time. You don't want to bog down mid-bow. The white Minkee I tacked with pink bows is a beauty. Don't forget while you're enjoying doing fancy stitches that you can make them a little bit longer than the default. Most SM manuals call that button or dial 'elongate'. While you're playing around, you might as well give a test of that ability. Have fun. Polly

Ohhhh! I didn't even think of that! I'll do it- play around with my settings, etc. Thanks! And I shall avoid the extra thickness of the seams, too. Good suggestions.

I like to tie at the corners. If you do it in the middle it can easily get pulled apart with stress.
