A few days ago Val posted a funny about Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. Like most of y'all I read it, laughed and forgot about it. Then, today, it happened to me.....

Yesterday I realized I needed a lap quilt finished by this weekend. Yikes! I emailed Pat on her hill about it and she very strongly- but gently (vbg)- advised me to finish a rail fence top I had started a few months ago rather than start a top from scratch. Okay. I can do that. I found the rail fence top and decided as long as I was making a quilt, I might as well make it large enough for a twin bed. I cut more batik strips and made more blocks and added 3 rows to the length- got that done last night. I ironed the top and folded it neatly and went to bed.

I was proud of myself for getting the top done, so this morning I wanted to show Pat a photo of the top... now where to lay it out for the pic? The kitchen floor was the obvious place but it was a tad dirty to lay my newly-finished quilt top out on it. My dogs hate the sound of the vacuum, so as soon as I started it up they all four headed for the doggy door and the safety of the backyard. I vacuumed the kitchen and mopped the floor.

The vacuum was already out and the kitchen floor was wet, so I decided to vacuum the rest of the house while the floor dried. The living room looked even dustier with the carpet clean, so I dusted the furniture. About then Simon decided the vacuum had been quiet for a while and it was safe to come back inside the house. Wrong. Chased Simon back out and mopped up muddy doggy footprints.

As long as the mop and bucket were out, again, I decided to mop the bathrooms, too. But before I could mop, I needed to clean both bathrooms, so I did. Okay, by now the kitchen floor should be dry. I unfolded the quilt top, took the pics and refolded the top.

Went to my computer to download the pics from the digi-cam. Nope. The batteries in the camera were dead now. I checked our battery supply and found we had about 100 each of every size battery except for the AA batteries the camera wanted. So I'll just drive the three miles to the dollar store and buy more batteries. But... I didn't have any money- I'd given my Hunky Mr. Collins my last $8 yesterday. (I worked all week last week instead of my usual Saturday only because Terry took a week's vacation. After working 54 hrs. I didn't have the time or energy to go by the bank last week.)

Well, as long as I had to go all the way into town to the bank, I might as well pick up a few groceries we needed. I was almost to my truck ready to head out when I remembered that I didn't have enough of any fabric for the quilt backing. So, back in the house to measure the top. I didn't want to unfold my neatly folded top and I was trying to hurry, so I tried measuring the top without unfolding it. I measured the length three times (110 inches in case you're interested) before I gave up and unfolded the top, measured the width and refolded it.

Got in my truck, went to the bank and WalMart. Got some money, found my backing fabric and picked up the groceries and headed home. About a mile past the dollar store I remembered I forgot to buy the batteries at WalMart! Turned around and went back to buy the batteries at the dollar store.

It's four hours since I decided to show Pat the pic of my top. Here's the %#&%$ photo-

Now I'm too tired to sandwich the top. I need a nap. Then I really need to add another row of blocks to the width.... LOL

This just hits TOO close to home! At least you now have a clean house....and all at once! I seem to have various parts clean at various times. You can read the internet ADD stories and scoff or relate....but we all know Leslie's is a TRUE story! OH, and I LOVE the rail fence quilt! I'm so very, very glad you went back for the batteries. It shows your persistance....after all that I'd probably take a nap and take another stab at it tomorrow! Whomever gets this quilt is a very lucky person! KJ

Sorry Leslie, but I couldn't help laughing. It really does sound funny when you put it all together like that >g< But ... you did all that in four hours - I'd have been at it all day and still only half finished! You are very industrious. No wonder you are tired (hope you had a good nap).

The quilt top, after all that, though, is really lovely - such pretty colours. I hope it will keep you nice and snug.

Dear, dear Leslie.........when I become Devine Matriarch of the World the first thing I will do is form the Ministry of Really Good Chocolate. I will then mandate all phones have the emergency number of MRGC put into speed dial on #1 of all phones. On days like yours you could just sit back, punch #1 and emergency chocolate would immediately arrive (three minutes or less) at your door with options for foot rubs, back rubs, alcohol of your choice if requested, and conciliatory hugs.

The only good thing about these days is that they will be gone by tomorrow and once your mind is totally disabled by AAADD The Devine Matriarch will also have another Ministry formed to make sure the Furbabies are fed, watered and cared for, fresh batteries are always in your camera and nourishing plates of food will be slide under your nose while you just hum little tuneless songs softly to yourself and quilt away.......'cause we understand.

First I want to say: Lovely quilt!

Secondly, I have had a *very* similar day! I HAVEN'T taken any pictures, haven't sewn any crazy quilt blocks, but I have: cleaned the bathroom ceiling (WAY overdue I might add!!!) taken down the bathroom light cover and washed out the bugs did 1 load laundry (although it contained a test bit for the new quilt blocks, so kinda, sorta quilty!) vacuumed sorted newspapers into articles to keep and put the rest in recycle (because the newspaper Mt. Everest sorta collapsed when I moved the coffee table while vacuuming) ate fish sticks cussed at doofus local politician while reading newspaper article about his latest nonsense. . .

My day goes on and on. . .I have actually taken the digital camera out of my desk drawer. Now I have to take some *good* pictures of my crazy quilt blocks so I can upload them. . .one of these days. . .

I love the batiks!!!! Good job! It is really going to be a beautiful quilt.....lucky person who gets it.....me, me? haha!

Leslie, I'm so sorry, but I just couldn't help laughing! (And, boy, did I need a laugh with how I've been feeling lately .) The bright side is that you now have a clean house and you were able to -- eventually -- remember what the original purpose of it all had been.

I wish I could see the quilt, but I think webshots is having a bad day

-- I get a proxy error every time I try to access anything today. Same thing happened with Tia Mary's site. :S I'll have to keep trying.

What absolutely GORGEOUS fabrics in that quilt!!! (I certainly relate to the rest of your day, too!!)

Quilt is gorgeous . . . . . but can totally relate to your day except it would have taken me four days!! rofl I am a bit less fleet of foot than you obviously!

The quilt is beautiful in those fabrics! Who is it for and why did you need it done so quickly?

Leslie, I hope you got that nap : ) Kind of reminds me of the book If You Give A Mouse A COokie. I was more organized than you as I headed out for a couple of errands this afternoon. All went well and I got home and realized I had grabbed

2 different shoes. They were both atheletic type shoes and similar but clearly different. There was a woman look> A few days ago Val posted a funny about Age Activated Attention Deficit

Thank you, everybody, for all the lovely compliments and the sympathy for my crazy, crazy day! I just woke up from my well-earned nap. LOL Actually, this quilt is for me. I'm having a bit of surgery next week and the powers-that-be keep the hospital so cold that I'd shiver my stitches right out if I didn't bring my own quilt. (Their "blankets" are so thin I would need 5 or 6 of them.) I always have a new bright colored quilt for a hospital stay- both to keep me warm and to cheer me up. And I always pass my hospital quilts on to someone who needs a special hug rather than keep it and the hospital memories associated with it. I may have a hard time letting go of this one, tho..... I really love the colors in it and it will match my quilting room in the new house. (Special note: I still have my gorgeous RCTQ hug quilt that I love to pieces, but I'd never risk a stain, damage or theft by taking it to the hospital with me.... I'll snuggle it when I get back home.)

Leslie & The Furbabies > The quilt is beautiful in those fabrics! Who is it for and why did you

Leslie, I've finally seen your gorgeous quilt, and those colors and fabrics would cheer me during a hospital stay, I know! :) Best of luck with the surgery.

Good luck for next week - and I totally understand about the hospitals being so cold. My last stay in hospital after surgery I begged to go home the next day because I could not sleep I was so cold (not to mention the noise!)

Hope you are cosy comfy and get to make a quick and easy recovery!

That's a beautiful top, no matter what went into the making and photographing of it! I hope to actually touch my sewing machine again someday... danged classes... freakin' work!!!;-)

The noise is unforgivable!!! And I am with you on the cold temperature........although I understand the reasoning. The colder air temperature retards bacterial and virus growth........a worthy consideration in a hospital setting.

Oh my heavens that's just beautiful. I love the colours. Such as simple design yet amazingly effective. You is one talented woman.

That may be just about the prettiest Rail Fence I've ever seen! And you're doing very well -actually accomplished a frightening amount of work for somebody with AAADD. Now I need a nap! Roberta in D
