Woolen Quilt

This weekend we sheared about 30 sheep. Instead of having the wool made into yarn, we are putting some of it aside to be made into a queen size quilt batt. Oh, it is going to a warm one. I was undecided on what fabric to use for the covering. We have many, many pairs of jeans around that need to be replaced and instead of throwing them out thought the denim would make a long lasting cover.

My it sounds lovely. Will be quite heavy though!

I'd use flannel if I wanted serious warmth and good quality cotton if I just wanted really warm. That wool bat is going to keep you warm and toasty, regardless of what you put on either side. Denim is good but it's too heavy for a bed quilt. It's more for a sofa protector or car quilt or to sit on when picnicking.

Well, I was looking for a way of recycling the old denim jeans that need to be replaced. But, it sounds like denim would be troublesome in one way or another. Perhaps we can cut them into strips and use them as rag rugs.

Maybe heavy cotton on one side and flannel on the other?
