8th grade scrappers

I am putting together a series of scrapbook classes for 15 eighth grade girls, some of whom are already experienced scrappers and some of whom are just starting out. I will have the girls for an hour a week for 5 weeks. Any suggestions? Have any of you done this type of thing before? star2fire

AGES and Grades, at least here in Texas Panhandle Area

ELEMENTARY pre-k = 4-5 kindergarten = 5-6

1st grade = 6-7 (Most say you must be 6 on or before Sept 1, of that year to be in first grade) 2nd grade = 7-8 3rd grade = 8-9 4th grade = 9-10 5th grade = 10-11 6th grade = 11-12

JR HIGH SCHOOL

7th grade = 12-13 8th grade = 13-14 9th grade = 14-15

HIGH SCHOOL

10th grade = 15-16 11th grade = 16-17 12th grade = 17-18

Give or take if your child is put back or held back in any year. I had just turned 18, 30 days before I graduated. Seniors in Amarillo got out of school

1 week before the rest but only if you were passing and exempt from Tests...I graduated #48 of 350.

Some places 6th grade is middle school, and 9th is high school and offically called your sophomore yr. When I went to school it was like the above. !st day of school was always the last week of August. And always ended last week of May. This is the Texas panhandle. Different in different areas. We also get Spring break when our school board feels like it here. But in Amarillo it was always the middle of March. Here we didn't have one last year and the year before that it was Thursday thur Tuesday of the following week. Weird.

Now for grades here they are pretty much average wherever you go

A = 100-90 B = 89-80 C = 79-70 D = 69-60 F = 59-50

If a child plays sports the Texas for sure has a "no pass no play" rule. You need a 70 or above in every class to play or do extracurricular things!

How is it set up in your country?

Wow, thanks for the info April! New Zealand is similar. Children from birth to five can attend childcare centres. 3-5yr olds can attend public kindergartens and I run a private kindergarten and we take 2-5 yr olds. CHildren start school when they are 5 unless there are special circumstances and they can wait until they are sick - but 99% start when they turn 5. Primary school goes from Yr 1- Yr 6 and then move onto 2 years at intermediate which is Yr 7 & 8. My oldest who is 13 starts highschool next year and she will do Yrs 9- 13 here and then can enter University or some other tertiary education. Shaina is going to an all girls school, but did have the choice of going coed. But the coed takes over 2000 students and Girls High takes 1200. Our school year runs from end of January until about 18th December. They get 2 week holidays at Easter and then again at the beginning of July and then again at the end of September. December is our summer time.So our seasons are completely opposite to yours. So we are similar but different too. Angela New Zealand.

Just to throw some more international school stuff in..for information!

Australian Schools can vary from state to state but a general guide is below!

0-5 - Daycare/childcare 3-5 - Kindergarten (mostly private at this age) 4-6 - Kindergarten or PreSchool (also called Pre-Primary) 5-6 - Year 1 (some schools have rules about birthdate being before 1 July to start when they are 5) Then they do Years 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 at Primary School. (some places have a middle school that does 6, 7, 8, 9, but that isn't that common here yet)

12-13 Year 8 - Beginning of High School Then Year 8, 9, 10. You can leave after Year 10 if you wish or the age of

  1. Then Year 11, Year 12. Most Seniors that graduate turn 18 the year after they leave School.

Hey Shaz...I'm originally from Qld ( I still live there when I go back to see DH)

It is actually compulsory to 16...but you can get work and have to get special exemption to stop school earlier than that.

I never said Kindergarten was compulsory, some schools have a Kindegarten before their Pre-school year (which is also not compulsory) and some are trialing Pre-primary.

Year 1 is also up to the particular school, it used to be the year that you turn 6, but a lot of schools are changing that.

After 7+ years in the south, neither can I LOL... Ok... not the swimming, but the BBQ. My first winter in Lousyana I called my best friend back in North Dakota to see what she was doing. She asks me then, and I say "I'm BBQing on the grill and wearing shorts." She wasn't amused. I was. LOL
