About challenges?

Ok, what exactly are these challenges and how do you enter them and how do you find out what they are? I looked on the r-c-s.info webpage, and the latest one is the September one, but I see y'all talking about November on here already, so what happened to October? Is that one already over?

Challenges are just that, a challenge to get us scrapping. Anyone can do them, newbies, regular poster, even lurkers. MC comes up with a new challenge for us each month and posts it here to the newsgroup. From there, it's up to us to do it, if we want to. It's always fun to share our completed challenges with each other, so we also tend to share when we've done the challenge. October's Challenge was to make holiday cards for the U.S. troops in Iraq. The deadline on it was earlier in the month due to where the cards were going and how long it takes to get them there. Usually the Challenges are scrapbook related, though. Feel free to jump in on any challenge! Sometimes I even save a copy of MC's initial post about the challenge, especially if I know I won't get time to do it that month, but really really really want to do that particular challenge sometime in the future.

This was the October Challenge that I found from M-C listed in a October 2nd post. Plus there is a challenge to gather some materials FOR the November Challenge I just read that in the last day or so. Do a search for November Challenge.

Also the beauty of the challenges is it can be whatever theme you want really. It's a challenge just to give you ideas and get you scrapping. Doesn't have to be Christmas, or children or whatever else you're not interested in scrapping. One month the challenge wasn't Scrapbook related and I said I didn't want to do it and M-C came up with a scrapbook challenge in addition to the other challenge. She's very good at enabling us to be creative.

It's usually the end of the month and I didn't quite get the hidden thing either. I know sometimes people will have journaling that pulls out from say behind a picture, but I put page protectors on my pages. So, one can't get in to do things like that.

The kit is really just gathering those items together, so you'll have them handy to do the challenge in November. M-C did the challenge previously where she used everything including any scraps to make all sort of different things like a decorated paint can, cards, scrapbook page. I like the idea of using everything, so one doesn't feel the need to save scraps that probably won't ever be used, but I found it takes a lot of my time to be that creative.

Michelle,

Hang in there, it's just about finding the challenge that inspires you. Here's a great place to start. Go to the RCS website and check out the challenges. Every challenge is posted, the instructions and then Jan through May as of tonight -- M-C is a little behind posting finished projects. She does everything around here pretty much herself so we appreciate what does get done -- has the photos of each completed challenge. So you can see the directions and our finished projects all in one place. You might even find some inspiration. It's fun to see what different people have done and it'll give you a good grip on the idea of what we're all talking about. Here's the link:
