September Signature Swap

I recently received a very wonderful and surprising squishy in the mail recently and included was a piece of fabric with the sender's screen name. In my thank you email to the sender, I remarked how nice it would be to swap siggies. She said it had been done before but not for a while, so it might be a good idea to have another. This will be my first attempt at organizing one of these, bear with me and help me out if you think I am off the bubble.

I would like to swap a 6.5" signature blocks with screen name, location and year. I will recommend the block, but it will be a simple one so all levels of quilters could join. I am thinking of a simple 3.5" center block of muslin with a 2" strip of one color on the sides and a 2" strip of another color on the top and bottom to end up with a 6.5" block. I would like the signature portion to be in muslin and the surrounding strips to be in two of your favorite colors. Now, beware, if you join, you will be expected to make a block for each person who also joins. All blocks should be sent to me and I will then package them up and send a pack to each member. Each swap member would then use the blocks for a quilt top or other project with all the bragging rights associated with it! I would like to post completed projects on my website for all to see and admire.

So, if you're interested, send an email to me with "September Siggy Swap" in the subject line so I can filter them into a separate folder. The deadline for joining is September 5th. This is important so we understand how many blocks each member needs to make. I want to give everyone enough time to make their blocks so the deadline for getting blocks to me is November 30th. That's 12 weeks. Packages of a set of blocks will be assembled and mailed to each member by mid-December. Please let me know if you are in the directory so I can get your mailing addy from there. If you are not in the directory, please provide your complete mailing address, particularily if it's an international address.

Interested? Don't forget, the block should use a muslin center and two of your favorite colors. Center block should contain your screen name, location and date. Permenant ink only, please! Fabrics should be prewashed.

More details will be provided to the members.

Don't have muslin--and $$ is far too tight to buy at present--I do have White butteflies on white background ((and a Micron permanent fabric pen))--or would this not work?

Remember this is YOUR baby -- I'm not asking for an exception -- I just like this siggy swap idea ;)

I think white fabric would be ok. Gee, and it has butterflies on it. Why am I not surprised!

Don't forget, anyone wanting to join needs to email me. If you respond via the newsgroup, I may miss it. If you want to respond here as well, that's great, but email is the way to "officially" join!

great idea!! Alice. one suggestion, use both screen name and real name, location and date. unfortunately i think i'm not gonna get in this one as i might well be in transit with no sewing machine/fabric etc at the ready nor time to get to it by then. waaaaaaaaaaaa. sokay, i'm sure i'll be round for the next one. doing one each yr would be a fun way to keep abreast of the gang here on rctq, eh, or is that too much work for peoples? oh well. maybe i'll sew up a bunch of swapping blocks for houston. i'm sure i'll find time before then. :)

oh yea and also be sure to post the blocks inside a plastic bag before you put it inside the posting envelope. this is in case theres rain anywhere along the route, those outer paper envelopes can rip and tear. include a clearly visible piece of paper inside the plastic bag with the TO and FROM addys on it just in case its needed. i've had squishys arrive from overseas that rain had caused damage and ya just dont wanna take a chance of losing precious siggy blocks, eh. have fun!! jeanne*

Trish, please send me an email with "September Signature Swap" as the subject. Let me know if you are in the directory or not. If not, please provide your address information! Responses to the swap need to be by email and not as a response to the ng. Thanks - welcome to the swap!

Good idea about real names. I was going to use tvyek envelopes to mail, but the plastic bag with addy is a good suggestion. I am sorry you cannot join this one. Thanks for helping with good suggestions, can always use a few of those!

Sounds fun, I did one before and have still to do anything with the blocks, so will have some more to not do anything with as well...

...or will at least have the excuse to actually get off my a** and do something with them!!!

Well, we will all show off our "completed" projects on my website, so if you want to be the *only* one without a picture to ooh and ahh, that's ok! Really.

It's all about choices, Suzie! You may choose to complete your siggy quilt top and display it proudly with the rest of the group and get the highest praise and happy dances from the other cast of thousands on the ng - or not!

Just like the others on the ng may choose to join in on this September Signature Swap and make and receive the most perfectly completed blocks in amazing colors and all originals since they will be personalized - or not!

See, it's all about choices.

This is my first swap, Marilyn, so we are taking it slow in September. The deadline for the signup is September 5th, but depending on how many folks join, we may extend that a bit. Details will be sent later, but blocks are expected by the end of November, to be distributed by mid- December. Ok? Do we have another member?????

Can a new person to the newsgroup join? I just finally figured out how to get the newgroups again after not being able to log on.
