Adhering Embelishments

Hey all!

Just a quick question...

I've been helping a friend (Melissa, who just joined us) with a book for her great grandmother this week - and having a lot of fun!!! (It's been awhile since I've done much work on scrapping! I will post my pics of my layouts soon!)

I've been trying new things that I've learned from here, or that just come to mind. Anyway - last night I got the idea to make a layout that looks like hanging picture frames, and I used some strung pearl bead embellishment. I had a really hard time getting it to stick securely.

So - I realized I haven't used a lot of 3D type embelishments - and so not sure how to stick them on well - What to you all prefer or reccommend?

Thanks!

Jessica

Honestly for a lot of the heavier stuff I have found glue dots to be the best! They stick like crazy! LOL and the small ones are small and clear enough to hide behind a number of very small things.

I agree with MC. I just recently used glue dots for the first time working on some cards. Happened to be with MC & Kenda, too! LOL Anyways, Kenda let me use some of her glue dots for some buttons, and boy do those suckers stick like crazy! Perfect for heavy or 3D embellishments. See...we're just a bunch of enablers around here!

Jessica, Glue Dots are my find for 2004! Work like a charm (pardon the pun) :)

I made a lo like that once. I used wire and a brad. I strung the wire v-shaped and looped it over the brad so that it looks like the nail. On the two ends of wire I put photo tabs and covered them w/ the "frame".

I've used glue dots for attaching embellishments to cards. They are easy to use and the object is securely held in place.

I don't own a Xyron but I have read posts by people who love/swear by them and it is my understanding that the Xyron can be used for applying adhesive to beads.

Tacky tape is really sticky too! It comes i all sorts of sizes so make sure what youa re glueing covers the size you are using. it is also a beach (like in FL - LOL!) to cut even with the Honey Bee non-stick scissors!

I also have used Elmer's Craft Bond Rubber Cement. The only trouble with it is it takes a short while to dry and yo have to be careful with "strings" like a glue gun.

Sometimes it it is a heavy item I have even wired it to the cardstock by punching two very small holes slightly under the embellishment and used a "U" shaped piece of wire like a brad. I love the foam dots, too as well as the glue dots. Sandy in Southern Indiana

Wow - thank you all for your help. I KNEW I'd get great feedback! :)

Sounds like glue dots are my next MUST have.

Doing some layouts again have also really inspired me ot go by MORE stuff (To replace what I've used, of course. Never mind I have TONS already....)

Thanks for the great ideas!

I LOVE glue dots I have them in I think 4 different sizes. I've cut them in half. I've balled them up. I've stuck them on straight from the tape. They really work well for a variety of things. I first became aware of them in a class on using metals in ones scrapbook. They really opened my eyes to that sort of adhesive. The class was VERY stingy with them, but once I was home with my own box of glue dots every thing stuck on really well.

LOL the key words here seem to be "every thing stuck". Makes me think of that labeller commercial where the guy had labelled everything including himself! LOL

Rubber cement works best when you glue both sides.. wait until dry, then stick them together... This will help with the strings as you can get rid of them before you stick anything together. Terry
