Ok, I have a question. I have several albums now and can not remember which one is which r which one I am working on.
So my question is this, how can one mark/label the spine? I inquired at one of my lss' that has a service available to label them, but YOW!! They are rather pricey.
I have awful (as ya'll know!) writing so painting or writing on them is out of MY mid! Would rub ons stick to them? I have both some cloth ones and vinyl or plastic type material, both surfaces anyhow are not smooth like paper, but like material.
Looking for some suggestions or wondering if anyone has tackled this issue with any results?
Hi Dave, I've used rubons and stickers both on the front and spines and both have worked very well. You can also put crystal lacquer on top of either the rub-ons or the stickers if you like that look as it will make it even more unlikely that they will come off. I've had a bear rub on on my bear album for at least 3 years now with no problems.
Assuming you're talking about post-bound albums, you can use a tag hanging over the back of the album (or you can bring it directly through the spine). Here's what I've done for mine:
Make a tag using a metal rimmed vellum tag, with the album's subject (and maybe the date) on both sides of it. Put an eyelet in the tag's hole to strengthen it, and thread about an 8" length of bead chain through. Then open your album to the middle. Thread the chain from the outside of the album, through the punched holes in the spine (or punch holes yourself -- just be sure to reinforce them), loop it around the top post, then back out to the back. Cut the bead chain to the proper length for optimum viewing when the album in on a shelf -- this will be your own personal preference -- and connect it with a connector.
You can add charms and other embellishments if you want to dress it up. Or make it as plain and austere as you like. If the subject of the album (and the style of the covers) warrants, you can use ribbons, chains, fibers, or other materials to hang your tag from.
You can do something similar with ring-binder type albums, by hooking the chain over the top ring inside the binder and letting the tag hang out over the spine.
One thing about it... If you use mostly the same type/style of tags, this can unify a lot of different styles of albums. Makes them look better on the shelves.
If it's a post-bound album, or you can get the spine off, you could stamp on the spine. Or...stamp on cardstock (or paper for the paper floozy in you) then use a strong adhesive to adhere the cardstock/paper to the binding. Then use a crystal lacquer to seal the cardstock/paper so it won't come off.
Now that is a grand idea Raz! I willhave to keep that one in mind. Currently I scrap chronologically and a good friend gave me some year metal ebellishments to place on the spines, but they will oneday run out. I like the idea of using tags.....
I was thinking maybe tying some fibers to hang downt he spine with a tag attached identifying which album it is, then I saw Raz's post and she said about the same thing! great minds think alike! LOL I like the idea of using a chain too! Linda C
OOOHH That idea Raz is kool!!! I would bet taht it looks neat too, and I have about 11 albums, 7 in the works or done, rthat I eed to do.
I wondered about stamping as I have tried those different types of label makers and they donot work.
i did not realize that crystal laquer could be used to sel - humm.
As for those binder labels there Teresa, I never thought o f them, but after rememberingthem from the Army - OMG!!! they would have to something MUCH MORE fanciful, like modified, and for that I would need some expert HELP!!
Thanx so much for the GREAT ideas and will look at them.
Dave, I'm not answering your question,....just tacking on to your e-mail to say thank you from my heart for the beautiful card you sent. It was uplifting and I also shared it with Jim. He was touched by your caring words. I am not getting online as much as usual due to all of the stressful things around here right now so know that I love you all and will try to catch the group as often as possible.
