Alternative Scrapbooking Sources

Hi Everyone

With more and more LSS's closing down these days, I thought it would be fun and interesting if we could share alternative sources for scrapping materials and goodies. When I started out scrapping a few years ago, I did not even consider any other place to shop than a propper scrapbook shop. These days, I realize that you can just about get anything you need anywhere, if you just keep your eyes and mind open. Like Kate proved a while ago when she found those bargains in the Charity Store!

Okay, so here's my tips:

  • For Ribbons, embellishments like buttons and any other small things like fabric flowers and sequences - your local fabric store. Way way cheaper to get these things here and many times a much wider variety aswell

  • Stencils, paint brushes, foam brushes, craft paints and even stuff like small mosaic tiles, chip board and adhesives - your local hardware store! I was surprised to see the other day that my acid free glue sticks were much cheaper here. Never even knew they stocked it!

  • Pens, Colouring pencils, paper clips etc - yes I guess this is a no brainer - your local news agent or stationary shop. They're also good for stuff like neutral coloured cardstocks They sometimes even have a small variety of inkpads and stamps.

It's not that I don't love going to the LSS, but it does help a lot if you can stretch the mula a bit! :)

Hope this help those who feels a bit "cheated" out of LSS's in their close vicinity.

Keep well and a lovely week for all!

I know this sounds crazy, but I helped empty the trash containers at a crop recently and found lots of misc embellishments and large pieces of scrap paper for cards. I was amazed to see the things that other scrappers consider trash. Sandy

I love Home Depot and Lowes for other metals and embellishments. I love the paint department for paint chips and paint samples.

Don't forget the always dependable dollar store and now thrift shops.

That's not crazy at all Sandy. When I think of stuff I threw away in the beginning, I cringe now. I think I'm actually too much to the other side now - don't wanna through away a single thang! LOL

I've actually thought of something else aswell - old clothing. I usually through them away or save some for rags. Not even thinking of the buttons or using the fabric. Especially old jean patches can look great on a LO.

Living in the sticks like I do I have to think outside of the box sometimes.....

I also have my husband trained NOT to throw out anything that I COULD someday use....also garage sales...just picked up some containers (the kind that are round and screw together) that were full of rhinestones, etc....11 of them for $3.00 and one of them have some really kewl elements in them....wish I would of bought more....

I have kept the bags that my potatoes come in because they are mesh and are great on a page....

I have a crimper and right now am wondering how aluminum foyer (sp!) would look crimped!...

also I'm cleaning out all my old picture stuff and found some old hinges ....

Try folding your aluminum foil over a piece of cardstock and taping it on the back before running it through the crimper. I have done that with an embossing folder and it looks great. The cards I made are in my webshots account in "Lynne's 2008 Card Challenge" the March cards.

LOL Debi! I've also got my DH "scrapbook - housetrained" ! :)) I'm sometimes amazed at how innovative he can be. I guess it's because he does not scrap and therefor does not get into a rut only looking at stuff at a certain way. Thanks for sharing!
