Cool new technique

As I was talking about earlier *using Pearl Ex with clear embossing powder* I went out and bought some clear embossing powder to try it. I also wanted to buy some more eyelets or dotlets in a certain color to finish my ATC cards. I couldn't find the color at Michaels. I thought I probably got the dotlets in a swap and started thinking I may not find that color and I REALLY wanted it, because it look so good. Then suddenly I thought I wonder if I could use the Pearl Ex powder and clear embossing powder to emboss some dotlets I have that aren't the right color. In essence turning them into the right color.

I mixed the clear embossing powder and Pearl Ex in a 4 to 1 ratio in a small cap I had laying around. I used my tweezer bees to hold dotlet by the bottom. I used Versamark to adhere the first coating of Pearl Ex laced embossing powder. Then I heated it. While coating was still hot I dipped it back into the powder heating it again. I then dipped it while still hot in the Pearl Ex powder by itself. Again heating to seal it on the dotlet. I dipped it probably 4 times in Pearl Ex laced embossing powder and 2 time in the Pearl Ex powder itself. They looked beautiful! They matched my card perfectly as I had used the same powder in the making of them.

Next test when I pounded them on to the card I wanted to make sure the color didn't crack off. It didn't! I did after the first one fold a tissue up and cushioned the dotlets as I pounded them on. The first one looked like it may have been scratched on the plastic mat.

So, I can now make eyelets match what I'm working on fairly easily.

Thanks for the instructions. I hate it when I can't find a brad to match what I am doing. I printed out the info and put it with my embossing pawders and supplies for future use. Sandy

Sounds great Lynne....something to try when I get my Pearl-Ex from ebay. I do something similar with brads at present.....using embossing powder but never added anything else to it! Wonder if the Perfect Pearls would work like this also...must try that! I also bought Moonglow embossing powder which has a beautiful two-tone look depending on how the light catches it. Can I be a thicko and ask what droplets are? Never heard that one before :o)

Dotlets are like eyelets, but have no hole in them.

Way to go Lynne! I've mixed PE & clear embossing powder before, but I put just a bit too much PE in. LOL It was a copper PE, though, so it doesn't take much to turn something to copper! LOL

Save the pop top part of soda cans (just fold it back and forth until it comes off the can) and emboss the same way as explained below. I can hear you saying "why would I do that?". They make cute "buckle's" to thread ribbon through so it looks like a belt or strap around a card or part of a scrapbook page.

I've seen that done...but have not tried myself. I did put some pop tabs in my scrapbox for future use. Sandy
