Digital Scrapping with Traditional Scrapping.

Apr 16, 2008 7 Replies

HI.

I'm almost done with Suzie's album and want to put divider layouts with a story or comment but the digital program isn't inspiring me. Can I combine the two? Like having traditional layouts being the dividers and the digital layouts in between. Can it be done or will it look dumb?

Help, Kate

I'm not sure what a divider layout is . . . but I combine digital and traditional scrapping all the time, usually just making things with digital programs to cut out and glue to traditional layouts.

Hi Kate,

I do not do Digital, however, a while back a girl was doing a paper regarding one versus the other and I believe some said they combine the two and went into why. Here's the link to search:

IMHO digital layouts should not be mixed with traditional layouts because the eye always migrate toward real textures and the digitals look unappealing in comparision.

I think it just depends on how it's done. If you look at my At the Farm scrapbook, here:

book/ I made several elements on my computer.

At The Farm letters Most of the journalling Men at Work sign Caution tape Paint spattered background paper on "Creative Genius page" and pots of paint Footprints on the dirt page "Horses" title Hay Seed letters Leaves Running Wild title

I don't think those elements look unappealing on the pages, but that's just my opinion.

Your work would be considered hybrid scrapbooking, you are combining the traditional and digital on a page. The end result is not a flat page which results from digital scrapbooking, there is dimension. Kate is not talking about combining traditional and digital elements on a page she is talking about mixing digital layouts and traditional layouts in the same album.

Ok, thanks. That's what I didn't understand, I didn't know what a "divider layout" was. So she's talking about alternating pages, digital and traditional? Yeah, I could see that stylistically, that could be a little weird.

Hi All,

Technically I should be doing a GLA for a stolen car but I wanted to pop in and say thank you.

I really didn't make myself clear as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and of course Scout Lady knew what I was trying to convey (bowing to her knowledge). Hybrid Scrapbooking. Hum. I'll try it out and see what I think on Monday after my doctor's appointment. The album is almost all done with the exception of 15 photos. I am going to use Clark Photo Labs to print the layouts as I used them in College and was always happy with them. They also now print archivally.

Hugs to all, Kate
