Scrapping Time

How often do you scrap? How much time do you spend scrapping?

It depends on my work schedule, but I try to scrap 2-3 times per week. I am also part of a group that has a monthly 5 hour crop so that helps. I usually spend a couple of hours scrapping at a time. If I make myself take breaks, I could sit there all day!

Usually I am lucky if I scrap 5 pages a year. I am a road runner, always running to the craft store to buy but never using what I have. We were saving up to go to disney next year so that means I have to use my stash (very hard or if I go to the craft store I have a limit $5 -10 no more) and we are becoming more home buddies. With that I have completed 6 pages to date this year. I set sunday aside and I try to do a 2 page layout. Also I want to get our 2006 disney trip scraped before next year. What has helped me is that I have a notebook that I sketch down page ideas and then I take my pictures that are saved on CD and I print a index which gives you a small print out of the picture. After I have my page sketched I go through the index and I cut and tape the pictures I want for the layout on top of the layout where I want them to go. The usually a day or two later I print the pictures and mat them if needed. Then when its time all I have to do is put it all together. This seems to be working great for me.

I scrap at least once a month since I have a scrap group at my home. One of my newest members keeps referring to it as "Craft night" and has tried to bring other crafts. Just last night had to remind her it is "Scrap night." hahaha

Then I try and scrap inbetween times, but don't alway get to. This past month I've really been putting in more time in the craft room. Doing cards and scrapping. Just last night I came across the LO's I did at the barn of my 2 baby showers. One the title wasn't finish, but I had used the SideKick to cut out all the letters. I sealed them in a make shift envelope. I thought great I'll just run them through my Xyron 150 (thank you Tammy and Shannon for turning me on to it at the barn). After I dumped the letters out I realized I had no idea what the title said nor had I written it down. My dilemma was very nerve racking as I'm very bad at Wheel of Fortune. :D

I calmed myself down and thought this is my daughter's shower so her name has to be here somewhere. Found it. Then I had the date of the shower. Then I thought it's a baby shower, so those 2 words might be here. Then I had only nine letters to figure out the scramble. Finally ended up with "Here Comes Allison, Baby Shower, 7/1994." Whew! I figured it out.

Well, I want to and plan to scrap all the time, I get the journalling done and get the pictures printed but lately I doN't have the muse to just sit down with my stash and do some layouts! But once I sit down, I can do like 8-10 layouts if the journalling was ready! I decided that I won't do any layouts without first having written down some stuff 'cos I have about 3-4 albums, with empty areas in each page to write some stuff down to! I guess I should set a schedule for myself, like when DH is doing homework or working on the computer I should scrap rather than watch TV!

I have no official scrap time. Here lately I have been trying to sit at my desk in the evenings, instead of watching tv from the recliner. I will turn the tv on in my room and just listen to it, and work at my desk. So maybe two or three days a week at most, for about 3-4 hours each time is what I would say I have been doing lately. On my days off work, If i dont spend it on the computer..(shame on ME) lol....I will make myself do my household chores first, and then have the extra time later to scrap..sort of a reward for me! :-) Linda

Good question. I scrap in fits and starts. I have to scrap in my kitchen as I have no craft room yet. I have had company for the last 2 weekends so that set me back. I try to pull my stuff all out at least one time during a month. I do as much as I can until something comes up and I have to haul all my stuff back to the closet. I am looking forward to getting the basement finished so I can have my stuff all set up and ready to go. I have only been to one crop, it was a CM crop many years back but I dont scrap that style anymore.

I like your idea of using the index prints to layout your page. I'll have to try that.

I did that once too. Could never figure it out so I went with another title.

It's interesting that you do the journaling first. I always to it last, and most times forget to leave a space for it!

I always try to do my chores first too. Sometimes it doesn't happen though.

I understand. Then you don't get interrupted by other things you should be doing.

The visiting is important too. I usually pick up lots of ideas that way.

You might try some Undo. It works pretty well and you can get it at Wal-Mart for a reasonable price.

I'm having the same problem. My scanner died so I'm having to take pictures of everything and I don't like that as much.

I did some CM pages when I started, and I ended up cutting the strap hinge part off-they then fit into a top loader style page. I just left the white page as the background. It wasn't ideal, but it works. Another idea would be to make a color copy of the page and use the color copies for a new page. But why redo all your early work? Sometimes its cool to look back and see where you've been, scrappin' style wise. Just a thought. Kathy

Well, when I leave the journalling behind, I end up with empty spaces among the photos and then totally forget to fill them in :P In my last project, I am setting the journalling exactly where I want it to be, and then printing it on directly the background paper, ? can't work with too many layers, so this makes it easier for me!

Oh and I began to do this part at work.... When I'm not too busy at work, I check out websites and otehr things and do the writing part, If ? have the selected in a memory stick, I then try to do a little scetch of the final page! and at home, I correct the fonts and spacing and just print and be done with it, this makes it faster for me!!!!

That's a really neat way to get ready to put a page together!
