Eyelets

Okay, laugh if you want, BUT I've JUST discovered eyelets and brads, = believe it or not! I dropped into a new craft shop yesterday and the = owner of the store was making Wedding Invites. She showed me how to use = it (I've only seen it on LO's and in Mags before). I don't know why, = but I always thought it was much more difficult than that to use. It = makes a HUGE difference I think and best of all...it's GREAT for stress = relief!

Hi, my name is Theresa. I am an admitted paper floozy, but recently, because of a little help from my friends, I have come to realize that I am also an eyelet floozy. Since receiving an awesoem kit for Christmas from Dave, I have discovered the stress relief and beauty of eyelets. I have purchased tooooooooooooo many eyelets on eBay for very cheap. I know that I have these addictions, but I don't want to do anything about them but continue to feed them. I realize the impact that these addictions have on my life: They help make my layouts more beautiful, give me something to look forward to when shopping *just for me* (and now for friends...yes, I've converted a few people to my bad habit ways...) and they offer stress relief on so many levels.

:-) Theresa

PS: The bestest deal I found for eyelets (and she's a great seller! ...great communication, etc...) is

Hi Lori,

I just used the MM tool kit, nothing fancy. I do try to remember to turn the paper around and just give a light tap to the back if it isn't down all the way. Of course that extra tap on the back might be one tap too many if you are using an eyelet that is more substantial than the standard round one.

I think the right tools is what works for me. I friend got me eyelets, an organizer and the tools for my birthday years ago. They worked OK, but what I notice about my eyelet setter is it would split the eyelet on one side and sometimes that split would show on the pretty side.

I got a new eyelet setter so I could do different sizes of eyelets and just by accident found a better setter. The setter instead of being just a one size fits all point has different ends to click on to fit the size eyelet. On this end are little lines that make it look sort of like a sun with rays. These rays split the eyelet in many places so it lays smoothly and none of the splits show on the pretty side.

I also found the type of hammer to be of importance too. My set came with a little hammer and it didn't have enough heft to the job done. So, I'd use the hammer from the garage. Only problem it was big and hard to wield in delicate circumstances. While at a hardware store I just happened upon a hammer called the Ladies hammer. It was a perfect cross between the tiny hammer and a regular hammer. It works perfect for eyelets.

You could use washers with your eyelets.

I'm sorry I did a search on the internet and couldn't find the brand of mine. BUT I've uploaded pictures on webshots of what you are to look for in a setter. I have the old setter next to the newer one I like. The brand is M'BELLISH I really have no idea where I got it. what's important is to look for a setter with a tip in the same shape. It works so well.

You just slip on the correct size washer over the shank and set the eyelet as you would normally. They do not add a discernable amount of weight to the page because the washers are made of aluminum.
