How to emboss a gold certificate seal?

I am creating a couple of certificates that I would like to add an embossed gold seal to. I would like to use an image for the seal that I have already designed. How could I emboss the seal using the image?

Thanks

Jen, The level of detail of your seal may play a factor. I have two suggestions.

  1. VersaMark or Zig Pen Take a look at my wall grouping LOs in

I don't have 4" letter stamps so I used the computer. Here I printed 4" letters using word on the computer. I chose a yellow base color. I coated the letter with a fine-tipped zig pen, let it dry to tacky and dusted with embossing powder. A versamark pen would serve the same objective. If you seal is not too detailed, you can "recolor" it with a zig pen to give the powder something to stick too until heated. I chose a print color close to my embossing color to minimize obvious mistakes.
  2. Heaving printing If your seal is very detailed, you might try adjusting your printer to the highest quality setting to make the printer output the most amount of ink. I would use a high gloss paper or even vellum to print on so the ink takes longer to dry. As the seal is coming out the printer or the second it is done, dust it with embossing powder. You are just looking for a wet surface for the power to stick too.

After you have heated the power to complete the embossing process, you may choose to trim the seal and add some ribbons so it becomes an embellishment to be placed using a glue dot.

Good luck!

Are you wanting to heat emboss or dry emboss? Amy gave great ideas for the heat embossing, which would probably be easier than the dry embossing. If you want to dry emboss, you could make an embossing template using a transperancy sheet, I would think. Usually, dry embossing plates are metal, but I would think you could use a transperency.
