Iris Folding

Look in the Other Crafts folder for my first attempt at iris folding. Thanks to Kate for spurring me on to try this new technique. Now Kate I got to the middle and didn't quite know what to do. Any hints? Lynne

What size are the strips of paper? I'm not totally with it - and just can't seem to follow directions this morning. Sandy

register and validate yourself. Head into the Forums and then Jads University (where I teach) the step by step instructions are there with pictures (I used my mom as a hand model).

Something shiny or just use the next color in your stack just unfolded.

The cuts are 1" x 7" then folded in half to be 1/2" by 7"

I had just made that little spiral for another project last night and it didn't fit and was laying on the table. When I was at a loss for what to do in the middle I just added a triangle of the border color and then stuck the triangle in the middle.

Sandy as for the length of strips I used Kate's directions and made them 1X7 I believe. I decided to start with the triangle pattern, because it seemed simpler. Now that I've done it I think any of the patterns would be OK to try. As I went I snipped off the extra length of folded paper and ended up using them for the middle as they were just the right length and saved my longer paper for another project.

Since you are on an iris folding kick and Lynne has done a great job on her first one I thought you all might gain some additional inspiration from this link.

Well, I was looking through my papers on hand to see what would look good together and thought red, white and blue would work. I wanted to find a star pattern, but the triangle looked easy so I started with it. Still searching for a star pattern to try.

Are you talking about the booties? I used a rubber stamp, cut the image out with an exacto knife. Then glued it inside the shaker. They were so easy. I make all my shaker about the same way now with the stamping and cutting idea. Have fun!
