New To Scrapbooking

Hello Scrapbookers,

I like to create history based web pages. This is fun but a lot of my friends and family

are techno-phobic, and do not come close to computers. :-( So I decided that the only

way I could share my hobby would be to expand it with scrapbooks. In October

2006 I visited

the local Michael's and attended a crop night. I was hooked. :-)

I put together a 4 page scrapbook about Columbus. The pictures were "scrap lifted" from

the web.

When that book was finished I decided to make one about the Pilgrims, hoping to have it

finished for the family Thanksgiving get-together. LOL I completed the Pilgrims Scrapbook

ONLY 2 days after Thanksgiving. I then converted it into a webpage.

I have a poor eye for alignment this became obvious to me only after I scanned the pages.

I will try to be more careful with the alignment on the next scrapbook I make.

I would like to have your comments good or bad.

Is there anyone else who makes scrapbooks with a history theme?

Hi Bill,

First off, welcome to RCS! Glad you've found us and thanks for sharing your pages. What a wonderful idea. You did a great job for your first time. I guess to solve your problem I would suggest using an "L" type ruler, I don't know what they're called but they've got that right angle on them... I think they're used by architects mostly. I think you could find one inexpensively at staples or some such store.

Thanks for sharing! and good luck :)

Hi Bill, welcome to rcs! I've not heard of anyone making this type of scrapbook but I think it's a great idea. It would be a good way to teach kids their history by letting them make one or work w/ you. Not you in particular, just anyone in general. I have a feeling that our history isn't a very high priority on the schools' minds nowadays. Thanks for sharing.

Welcome to RCS Bill! Your Pilgrim scrapbook looks great. I remember as a child, hating history. My MOm loved it. Now that I'm grown, I wish I had paid attention more in history. You have a great idea there with your history scrapbooks. Thanks for sharing!

How fun! I can't really tell if anything is crooked or not, because it could be distorted from scanning it. Almost all my stuff ends up being kind of crooked, and I don't much care, but if it bothers you get a ruler and measure from the nearest edge of the page to the corners of whatever you're placing to make sure they're the same distance and then it should be straight. Assuming you cropped straight in the first place, of course.

Now this has inspired me to do a scrapbook about my favorite authors! I could scan the book covers, have a little biography, and my own "reviews" of the books.

Bill - Let me just saw how impressive that is! I linked to your website...great job! I have couple of questions for you regarding loading the pages to the internet. I am taking a class on how to create web pages, so I got that part down. But, did you just scan or take a photo and upload the image to your page! Awesome job. I am a newbie to this group, but have been scraping for a few years. This is a great way to share the things that you have created with family and friends. I am going to make this be my next task to accomplish!!

Hi Nikki, I am glad you liked the "Pilgrims" web page. The scrapbook pages are 12x12 I have a 8.5x11 flatbed scanner. I had to make two scans of each page. 1 top and 2 bottom, then stich them together using PhotoImpact I then I placed the pictures into a .HTML file and uploaded them to my webpage. I first tried taking pictures but was not happy with the results. I hope this helps RCS is a very friendly group I'm glad I joined.
