Scrapbooking Clubs (people, not supplies!!)

Does anyone here belong to a scrapbook club? Not the type where you buy supplies or anything, but an actual club that is organzied, with organized crops, activities, etc. I was thinking about starting a club with some of my friends and just wondered what type of things you would do. Thanks.

No you know, I'm not, but I would LOVE to be a part of a group like that. I say go for it. I'm sure you can get a great thing going there!

Not part of one (don't know when I'd find the time) but it sure sounds like a good idea. I say go for it! As far as things to do? Scrapbook!! lol. You could rotate hosting responsibities (houses I would assume), people could bring snacks and you would just gab and crop! You could always have themes - like everyone work on birthdays or holidays or something. You could all vote and give a little prize for the best page of the night or best use of something, or even most pages completed. Most of all, you would just have fun!! :)

My friends and I kinda have a club, if you want to call it that.. There are

6 of us who get together and scrapbook, altho, most of the time its only 3 or 4 of us... but we rotate houses, so that its not all the same person having to clean and such.. we usually get together from 7 til midnight (fridays or saturdays)... we don't always get together in the same amount of time.. ie. every 2 weeks.. but whenever of the majority of us can find the time.

As well, a few of us do challenges, and they have all been About Me pages... right now we are working on pages that are little known facts about us... we are also doing a christmas gift exchange, and a layout exchange... :)

If you want to ask me any more questions, feel free. :)

Hi JennP,

Well, I started a scrapping group a little over 6 months ago. I have found that the group that gets together varies each month with 2 main people and myself. Had as many as 8 and as few as 3. I do it the first Friday of every month at my house. I started a few months ago creating a challenge each time. Usually something I'm doing and I MAKE the other ladies do it too. hahaha Last month I was using the templates I bought to make frames. Month before I challenge everyone to put an eyelet of 2 on their page. Month before that was to try the glitter glue.

We share supplies if needed and pay each other back if need be. Most of the time if someone needs red paper I give it to them, because I know if I ever need something they'll share too. One time I borrowed some blue water letters knowing I could buy her more next time I was at the store and gave them to her the next month.

I like having the group I guess could call it a club, because it gets me to do more scrapbooking. I know I'll do it at least once a month cause some women will show up at my house and make me. I'm finding I'm scrapping more cause the dining table has all the leaves in it and my stuff is out.

I always think I'd like to provide snacks, but then we'd have dirty hands and that's not good for scrapbooking. So, I provide drinks and bowls of M&M's. I bought 4 CM drink holder/trash bag things that attach to the table. That way no one has a drink on the table to spill. Some ladies have their own and bring it.

All the best, Lynne

:) We have munchies.. and have had an incident or two with drinks.. so no cups on the tables now! And usually if a person is eating, they don't eat at the table, and they will rinse their hands (or lick them... lol) before they start again!

My big fear was that I would spill MY drink and ruin someone else's work. When I got the cup holders every thanked me, because they had the same fear. There have been no spills and with the little trash bags it's actually made clean up easier. I've made snacks twice and the time it took to snack and wash my hands I just decided I'd rather scrap. We're usually only together about 3 hours. Maybe if it was an all day thing I'd be more serious about food.

This is what I am looking to do pretty much. How do you deal with space? Do you have extra tables or just enough table space for the amount of people you get? I would like to make it a little more scheduled like...say...second Friday of each month. That way there isn't a scramble to get it together and after a few months people can clear their calendars to plan on it for that night.

OK, these are great ideas and kind of what I was thinking about . I do think there might need to be a little more motivation than just come and crop. I really like the idea of page challenges. Thanks.

I have found

I was hoping that I'd get at least 3 people to each crop. That way it's worthwhile to get ready. I could just have one friend over any old time, kwim?

I started a few months ago creating a challenge

LOL. I like the one about to "put an eyelet or 2 on their page". Not a real group of risk takers yet? ;) I think other good ideas might be a trading pages swap, using rubber stamps, try embossing, etc.

I like the idea also, and was thinking of keeping a scrapbox type thing available at the crops. Take something out, replace it kind of thing. We could still do our own little swapping and borrowing of course.

That is a good idea. I wish my lss had something like that at their crop tables. Love the M&M's...melt in your mouth but not in your hands!! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I was thinking that. Cups on the floor at least if they spill there, there's less to damage. Unless you are scrapping on a $20,000 oriental rug! ;)

And usually if a person is eating, they don't eat

True, this is what I do at crops at my lss. I do eat at the table, but I don't have any of my stuff out and always wash my own hands afterwards.

I went and looked at the cows. They really are awesome. They did turtles here in Florida a few years back and in October 2002 they had Elephants and Donkeys (quite appropriate I think) at the hotel where I was staying in DC. It is amazing what people will come up with to decorate these animals with. Of course, I never took pictures of any of them. Silly me!

Creative Memories has really nice cupholders/trash cans and when I crop I bring my holder. Again my fear of ruining someone else's work. They were $15 last I checked and totally worth it. Even if just working at home. I really like the trash bag. The taping one to the table never works for me I knock it off or it falls off.
