Scrapbooking Business, any help?

Hi there,

I really enjoy scrapbooking and I was wondering if I should start a small business where I scrapbook for people. They would give me some pictures and I give them a form to fill out like what size book and what colors they want me to use. I would buy all the supplies and make a whole book or just a couple of pages. I would really only do it for friends or family. I would love doing it and it would be nice to make a little money. Reply with any ideas! :*) Thanks

Well, I would certainly say if you have potential customers to go for it!

My only hesitation is this - can you capture their feelings, emotions, etc when you do someone else's pages? Or would you have them do their own journaling?

The appeal (to me) of scrapbooking is that it's more involved emotionally than just putting together pictures in a photo album. Journaling and personal observations are what make it an important hobby to me, not just something to do. It's like I put a piece of myself in my books for future generations - not just to look at the people in the pictures, but to really

*know* who I am and what's important to me. Does that make any sense at all???

Not sure if that helps you or not....

BTW, we would love to see some of your work if you have it posted somewhere!!

A lot of people here use Webshots to put up their pages. Do you do 81/2 x

11 or 12x12? Have a scanner or digital camera? I personally have my own website, so I can help with scanning and such, just not specific questions that might come from Webshots.

BTW, how long have you been scrapping? Where are you from, kids? husband? animals? I didn't see that you did any kind of intro yet, and I'm usually the last to notice, so if you did, tell me where and I'll check it out.

Oh, and I'm Dawn, from Michigan - married 8 years, one dog, 2 cats, and a baby due today. Been scrapping for about 4 years now!

:) LOL. That's plenty of info... we're kinda like a family around here, so we all tend to have a lot of things in common, not just scrapbooking. Whatever you're comfortable with sharing is fine.

You can scan 12x12 pages, it's just a little more work...you scan one side of the page, then the other, then using some sort of photo software, you stitch the 2 sides together and Tah-Dah! A scanned 12x12. :) If you search through the old messages here, there's even some free software that's very user friendly to stitch.

Good luck.

I just have to say this! I have gone to two Crops at local churches two Fridays in a row now and there is a lady that was at both who and I quote her on this "HATES SCRAPBOOKING"! She went to Ireland and wants the pictures in a nice scrapbook that is archival quality but she is suffering through doing it. She doesn't care about journaling either! I tried to talk her into at least writing down the locations and her thought of the locations but she wishes someone would do it for her! This is the type of person you need to find to do work for. I think the whole room gasped when she said she hated scrapbooking LOL!

I do this for a side job. I charge $10 and hour plus supplies. Right now I am doing 27 layouts for a person in KS. I don't do any journaling. All I do is a two page layout (she tells me what kind, ex. clifford, 30th birthday, bob the builder, ect.) and I just do what I want and leave spots to journal and add pictures. I do have criteria though. I do it my style, and only 12 x 12. If someone has a different idea of what they want I tell them they need to find someone else to do their pages. We each have a style and it is very hard to try and accomodate someones thoughts if you don't agree with them. Just my two cents..........Karissa Good luck!
