OT: Anyone near Beaver Dams/Watkins Glen, NY

Hi.

I can't get a hold of my folks and it is scaring the beejeezus out of my sister and me. Has the weather been funky or anything?

My dad is a diabetic and his sugar level on Tuesday was 35 and I'm not sure how my mom is handling it (long story even though I know they have been married for 42 years.)

Is there anyone in upstate NY? Chemung County? Let me know, I love someone to do a drive by for me. My sister is trying to schedule Roy to drop Sarah off at my house for the weekend so she can go up but it is an 8 hour drive (5 if we don't look at her spedometer.)

Thanks. Kate

Kate, Can you not call the local police department to do a welfare check for you? Sandy

Elizabeth and I called three neighbors who did a "search and rescue" mission on my folks. Word got out that "the Higby Girls" can't get a hold of their parents so a small contingency of 20 neighbors and the owner of the mini mart at the end of their driveway all rung their door bell to say "call your girls."

So the phone company came only to see that the resident woodpecker dismantled the phone line. LOL.

Mom and Dad should be up with a telephone by saturday. I guess the woodpecker thought the telephone wire didn't go with it's nest and removed it. LOL.

Thanks everyone.

Kate

About 3 weeks ago a squirrel was doing a dance on top of the transformer at the corner of our lot by the driveway. The kids and I were watching him like we do all the time when he must of touched a wire - sparks flew, the transformer made a loud boom and started smoking and the squirrel hit the pavement. I had to have DH remove the body as soon as he got home because the children were so worried about it. The entire neighborhood was without power for about 3 hours. Thank goodness it was one of those warmer days.

Glad to know your parents are okay. Sandy

Thank goodness your parents are ok! They must have been wondering why no one was calling them!

I"m glad they have so many people were caring and willing enough to check on them, and everything's ok. Your parents are lucky people to have you and your sister!

Gosh, Kate, sounds scary! :*( Wish I could help out, but all I can do is pray that things are fine with both of them.

What a relief! :-) Glad it wasn't something more serious! Especially now, during the holidays! We'll keep your dad's condition in our prayers, that he doesn't have any more complications from the diabetes, and for you mom to have strength dealing with the stress I'm sure she must be under.

I'm glad that's all it was... my grandma gave us a number of scares like that when she insisted on living alone even though she was very frail - one time she didn't answer the phone, so Dad drove over to check on her and she didn't answer the door either... he had to go to mam's sisters to get the key, and when he got back she was just having a very long nap!
