OT: Update on Mom's knee and mine

Mom's surgery went really well. Thanks for posting the updates Deb! Things have been crazy around here. I'm on vacation but so much to do just before Christmas and the birthdays around here.

Mom is feeling really good. She walked 120 feet this morning, can get up out of a chair by herself. They still need to teach her to get in/out of a shower. She asked them to remove the morphine pump this morning as she doesn't need it. She argued with the nurse that tried to give her 2 pain pills. She told the nurse that her pain was less than it was before she had the surgery. It's just a different kind of pain and she didn't want the pain killer. (it was making her very nauseated as well) So they compromised and she took just one. They are talking about letting her go home tomorrow, she still has to be able to bend her knee to a certain degree but she thinks that she will be able to once the drain is removed and the wrap that is keeping the swelling down.

Many thanks to all that sent up prayers for her. She has a wonderful surgeon and the nursing staff is wonderful. I have witnessed the power of prayer and really appreciate everyone's and all the good thoughts sent her way.

Now for me: sheesh, if it's not one thing it's another. Last December I fell at work, landed on my knee. It has taken over a year for worker's comp. to approve an MRI. I had one done last Friday, I saw an orthopedic surgeon yesterday! I am having surgery on Jan. 4th. He couldn't believe I've gone this long with all the damage to my knee. He is impressed that I am still working, let alone walking! He will repair all the damage that was done the the cartiliage, remove the pieces that are floating lose and remove the inflammed tissue on a thing call the plica shelf. (never heard of it but we all have them in our knees, usually don't bother you unless you have direct truama) I will be off work 1 week, light duty for another 3 then to full duty. I am at least greatful to get it over with and finally treated. I've been arguing with Workers comp, who buy the way is also my health care plan....

Again, thank you to all those that said prayers and sent good thoughts to my Mom.

WOW! Kenda, I am sure that it will go well but what a shame that it has taken this long to get approval for the MRI! I'll keep all of you in my prayers!

Hugs, M-C

Kenda I'm so glad to hear that your mom is doing so well after her surgery. I'll add you to my prayer list for a speedy recovery from your surgery too.

I am sure it will go well too M-C. I am just glad they have decided to do something about it. My pain tolerance has been reached. (not good when you start crying while shopping due to the pain.)

Mom had complete knee replacement. As soon as she gets the go-ahead from the Dr. she'll have the other one done. She's done really well, the Dr. is pleased with how she's been doing with all of her therapy. She was suprised at how big the incision is, she said nearly 12 inches.

I hope you get your knee fixed, let us know when you go in.

Believe you me I understand and sympathize! It took me over a year to convince my arthropod that there was something wrong with my knee. Now that was back in the dark ages where they didn't have MRIs, but still! And I had waited till I couldn't stand the pain in the first place before going to see him! Would you believe the yahoo was the doctor for a professional hockey team? I'll be he did better by the hockey starts than by a lowly army captain!

Thankfully getting arthroscopy surgery is generally a breeze and you'll feel so much better when it is all done! Now be a good girl in the meantime and do take the pain pills when you can!!!

Big hugs, M-C

Oh my! Sounds like he wasn't such a great Dr.! I am being a good girl and am starting a regimn of anti-inflammatory and pain relievers. I can only take the good stuff when I'm not at work......

I'm glad she's doing so well too! She came home today, just before 5pm. She was able to get up the steps by herself!! Aside from the fact that she didn't get to sleep much in the hospital she looks great and said she feels good. I'll bet after a full nights sleep she'll feel much better tomorrow.

My knee will be taken care of, assuming workers comp. doesn't drag their feet. And I will call if I need anything. I could use a few weeks off, without having to have light duty. Maybe you could arrange for me to get stranded on a tropical island, with my crafting supplies, for several weeks so I can rest and mostly relax?? LOL yeah, like that's gonna happen!

You can go to a tropical island with your crafting supplies if I get to go too. LOL With a hunky pool boy named Juan serving us drinks!

Why not just come here, both of you and use my crafting supplies? That way you and Deb can travel light, LOL!

LOL No kidding. I don't think we would need any crafting supplies, would we? If we Dave'napped Dave and brought him along, we would have to have more paper though. LOL
