Anyone live near Woodstock, MD?

A friend has recently relocated to Woodstock, MD from the San Francisco Bay Area. Another friend just flew back to see her & came back very distressed, because they could only find one quilt shop - Bears Paw in Towson. They did go to Jinny Bayer's studio. The mutual friend said there are no quilt guilds, no shops, etc. I've been Googling & found that not to be true, but just wondering if anyone lives near the area & can make any recommendations that I can pass on.

Thanks as always!

Pauline: The atlas is downstairs, and I don't have a good grasp of Maryland geography. However, I do know that there is a great LQS in Gaithersburg. It is called Capitol Quilts or such. Also, I know there are several active guilds in MD that have shows coming this Spring. More later. I need to close computer. PAT in Virginia

Thanks Pat. It may be a little further out than she feels comfortable driving, but I'm adding it to my list. She has a lot of health issues - number 1 being a bungled back surgery she had about 20 years ago that has left her in enormous pain, so she has very few "good" days when she can venture out & about, but, I did find their website & it looks like a great store, so I'm sure she'll get herself there.

When my other friend came back from visiting & said there weren't any quilt shops close by & no quilt guilds, I knew it couldn't be as bad as the picture she painted, so I came to the most informative group on the internet - you guys have never let me down! It's like my own personal encyclopedia.

Woodstock is near Baltimore, and there are lots of fabric shops and such around this area! Don't forget we have G Street Fabrics in Rockville, Seminole Sampler

one of the area guilds that she could visit to see if she likes. Our own Cappy is a member there (even though Cappy doesn't visit heremuch any more). I've visited this particular group once and theyseemed really nice (but what group of quilters isn't?). Definitely get her to G Street Fabrics. I believe I saw on their website that they are moving this summer, though. I don't know anything about that, and I haven't been up there in quite a while myself!

Welcome to the East Coast, friend!

About an hours and half south, in LaPlata, there is a terrific shop called Material Girls. There used to be a second shop in Waldorf, but they went out of business.

My daughter went for a job interview in LaPlata and they put her up overnight. She called me from the motel and to tell me there was a huge quilt shop next door. She took the job and I am a frequent customer now.

Pauline: At MAQF I picked up quilt show flyers for several nearby states. I was surprised I have just one for Maryland: Gaithersburg, MD April 24-26

Everyone had great recommendations. A few notes: Gstreet is moving to basically across the street from where they are now. I'm hoping for a few more big sales before the big move, get on their email list or check their website for coupons. Patches in Mt Airy might be nearer to her than the 270 corridor shops. A lot of the people from my guild like that store and I just heard the person who services Berninas there is great. This is fun and a lot of the local stores have website links.
