Lego is running a program for kids to help build schools for New Orleans. The child sends in one or more Lego brick(s) and Lego will donate a real brick to build the schools for each brick received and will also send the child a wristband for participating in the program.

Thanks for posting this! All four of my kids just picked out some of their Lego bricks and we've got them all addressed and ready to go. They thought it was a great idea and they're excited to be able to help the kids in New Orleans.

I originally read the article in the NY Post
The NY Post reported
April 22, 2006 -- RECYCLING starts at home - and what's cooler than trading in your old LEGO bricks for the real thing, and by doing so, helping to rebuild schools in New Orleans?
Through Aug. 31, the toy maker promises to match every brick it receives with the genuine article. It's also asking kids to send in notes, drawings or pictures of something they think would benefit the New Orleans of the future.

We gathered up some bricks and when I went to the lego site for the mailing info this morning the Lego site says they will match the bricks sent in with LEGO bricks. Nevertheless the bricks will be used for the students in New Orleans so we are still going to send them in.
I received this reply from LEGO today. You'll see my question at the bottom also. I hope that clears up the confusion. I still think it's a great idea.

Hi Alida,
Sorry for any confusion. We are matching the LEGO donation with LEGO bricks. The idea is to rebuild the creative play materials in the New Orleans schools.

Hello,
After reading in the NY Times about the plan to have kids help rebuild New Orleans, my children and I thought that was a great idea and went to your website for more information but now I am a bit confused after reading the details there. Is LEGO donating LEGO bricks to the children or are they donating REAL bricks to rebuild the schools? The NY Times article says real bricks but your website makes it sound like only the LEGO bricks. Which is it?
Sincerely,
Alida Spry

Thanks for the clarification.
