Been Knitting :)

I've been in a knitting mood the last couple days.

I made a scarf for myself in Lion Brand Moonlight Mohair (color:Rain Forest), which is a blend of earthtones and a strand of metallic.

Also started a scarf for my best friend, which I decided to co-opt for myself halfway through. Patons Rumors (color: Moonstone Heather). By the time I was done with the scarf, I was e-mailing LYS to special order enough for a sweater. Mmmmmmm, the stuff is delightful to work with! Soft and fluffy, and the colors match so much in my wardrobe.

And, since it's noon and I still have no paying work on my desk for today, I'm off to knit a hat for Baby Claudia's first birthday. Who knows where my knitting adventures will go off to after that while I wait for my clients to get back into work mode after the holiday weekend!

I find knitting very soothing. I have been going through all that expensive sock wool ( the German stuff that is washer/dryer good, Opal et al) and knitting up the ends into VERY colourful socks for me. I have had a few comments and queries as to whether I have a sock fetish, but what do I care, they are toasty warm.

Socks are so much fun to make. I got some great book with tons of sock patterns - divided into 3,4,5, or fair isle patterns - and charts so that you can do them in 4,5 or 2 circular needles. I'm actually doing a pair of heavier ones for DH as "house" socks now. But, have waiting a few skeins of lovely washable soft merino or alpaca wool for the next few pairs.

Me, too! I took your advice and got some camouflage yarn for DS. The Ben Franklin is moving to a different location and they only had 1 skein of it, so I got that and am knitting a *very* simple k1p1 (almost no looking at hands!) scarf for him. I had probably 12" done and decided it was too wide so I ripped it all out and have now redone a little more than that. DH will be gone for a few days so it will be a relaxing time at my house...I should finish it in the next couple of days while watching tv. :)

Joan did you actually find camo yarn ? Or do you have to divide it as Karen said. That I am not prepared to do, but if what you found is sock weight, I would be prepared to knit socks for my son.

It must be a time of the year thing. I've put away all my other projects, some started and others sitting there just waiting for me to put needle to fabric, and I'm knitting aran squares for yet another unneeded afghan. I have a load of sport yarn in several compatible colors so I'm just doing the squares in whatever color I happen to pick up.

It's keeping me busy and I dearly love doing complicated knitting patterns so this is fun.

I find knitting very soothing and more comforting than any other pastime.

You could make me a pair!

I have (or had) some - it's worsted. I won't split it for you!

It's like eating peanuts, once you start... I don't dislike doing socks because you only have two threads to work in when finished, my kind of project.

Our super was here earlier on and saw the latest combo pair I am doing, she loved them so they will go to her. Just shows one doesn't need perfection. Usually I find there is enough left to do the cuff and turn the heel, so the mismatched wool doesn't really show.

The super has just laid claim to the pair now in production. Send me the length of your foot and the next ones are yours.

Worsted would be heavier than what I use. Nothing on the label to say but I would think 3 ply, no bigger.

It's a deal - will American shoe size do? Or actually length?

Just stand on a piece of paper and then measure the length. I am better with that as I have lost track of what the difference is between American/Canadian/UK/Euro sizes. I must say, you will find these great for those rinks lol

I'll do it, but it's definitely "if you have to ask, you can't afford it".

Yes, it's camo and it is 4 ply and, like Cheryl, I will not separate it for you, either! LOL Since I'm knitting a scarf, I don't need to split it. If you want to knit him *heavy* socks (or slippers) it would work. Since it's synthetic yarn, if you knit it into socks they probably wouldn't keep his feet very warm, either.

Yes that's a no go. If you ever see lighter and wool, please be sure to let me know. I only like knitting wool anyway, picky I know lol

I like wool, but am knitting with a wonderful silk (Great Adirondack's Silk Delight) and am finding it a realy treat. Doing a shawl for myself.

That sounds lovely. I should have added I don't like knitting with synthetic, cotton, silk, wool, fine.

Me too. I tend to knit in the evenings when my eyes are more tired. Plus, I've been knitting a scarf at the CAPS games. I do believe I'm about finished with it - just a few more rows and enough left for fringe. Then I can start a new project for the new year. But for what I do at the games, can't involve my having to look much, or do cables, etc. So this was a basketweave (4X5) pattern. I think next I'll do Mistake Rib. Or, I have a knit on the bias that works out well - you K2Tat one end and then MI at the other - once you've gotten to the width you want.

I prefer doing pieces that have something interesting going on - it keeps me interested.

I think it's another of those tactile things. I do have 2 throw kits waiting to be started. Hmmm, maybe I'll start the gift one.

That is so true. About the rinks. I just use a tape measure and get the instep circumference, and then the heel to toe length - the paper idea is good for the length. But, I like to have the circumference for the instep and the cuff (depending on how high they're going).
